Okay, guys, this would be giving away quite a bit of strat, but most likely at least a few of you have figured it out. I built a granary in Bolderberg, but somehow it doesn't work. I went one pop up, and got no free food. Now, I went one pop down again, and still haven't got any extra food... also, the thin line doesn't show, which normally indicates the presence of a granary. Does anyone know what is wrong? I really would like to have that granary, instead of spending all these shields on building it

But since you are building granaries instead of units, I'm happy, so here it goes: The granary line shows only if the food is more than half-full. If you build the granary in the same turn as when your population increases, the population increase happens first, so the food becomes empty. Losing population from a worker does not affect the food level, with a granary or without. So if you build a worker or a settler before the food goes past half-way, you still won't see the granary line. Wait a few turns.

Nathan, I agree that you shouldn't mess with granaries when you don't know what you're doing, and I'm not complaining here, it was my own stupid mistake. But, I had made settler pumps before, and everything went fine... I guess I was lucky before.

Oh well, it might ease the pressure a little... could be good for the game (and bad for me).

I wouldn't go so far as to say that granaries are a bad idea if you don't know all the tricks. You just get a little extra out of them if you do.
