Total agreement here... Rich, a nice journal It's good to see you're enjoying the game in this work-in-progress stage, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised to the rest.
Further, flank and charge are not placeholders, but precision strike is (IIRC). Flank means your cavalry don't attack directly, but circumvent the troops this miniturn. Charge appears in the next turn, at which these rested, and better positioned cavs charge forward, and deal double the amount of damage as normal. Very nasty tactic, but it does mean that your cavs have to take one 'free' round of hits from the defending troops.
Precision strike means that the chance of actually hitting something is halved, but OTOH you got to pic who you target, and thus who will be captured / killed.
