the queue Suffering from ads?

I assume we are building a second warrior presently, but I cannot be sure since I do not have access to the save... hint, hint

My question is: What next? Is it our intention to begin building a settler next? The preliminary Public Works estimates indicate that a settler next would be up and ready to go in 3200 B.C. ( a very good time table and a testament to the fact that we have both great shield and food resources at our disposal).

Anyway, is it to be a settler?

Also, bronze working would become available in 2950 B.C. and would allow us to make the next unit a spearman if we so choose.

I would like to hear suggestions from the Governor of Madrid as to what our next unit(s) should be.

Some ideas:

GK once said that if none of your cities are building settlers that you have a greater chance of receiving them from goodie huts. Does anyone else agree that this is true?

Once our city expands we will put to use the irrigated wheatfield of the north to improve our expansion. A settler is definately the next best bet, but we may want to put a "placeholder" unit in there until the goodie hut is poped, and then switch to settler later.

Do we need a 3rd warrior or should we go straight to REX?

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

please note, Soren Johnson said in one of his chats "if you are working on a settler in any city than you cannot get one from a goodie hut". As he wrote the AI, I suspect that it is true. I have seen many others talk about this on the strategy forums (where I am a fairly regular lurker). I beleve this to be true. So whenever we are about to pop a goodie hut, make sure we have NO settlers being made if we want a chance to get a settler. This means in 5 turns just before our culture expands Madrids borders, we make something like a barracks or what not, then switch back to a settler the next turn.

The other think about goodie huts is that no barbarians can come out of it if it is opened by a city radious.

In short... Rex

placeholder units untill building settlers is at maximum efficiency. If we can build a settler before our city is size 3... dont waste turns, put out warriors. But at any time we can get a settler, we should.

The more land we get now, the less land we have to fight for later

and on the issue of the goody hut.

I dont like "hoping" for a settler. Id prefer to know we WILL get one. So i wouldnt throw our eggs in that basket.

So REX ASAP, hope the hut gives us a tech, or settler if we are REALLY lucky.

By my estimates, we can get the first settler without wasting any turns. The settler should become available one turn after we become size 3.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

It sounds like in 5 turns we can get the expansion of of culture and pop the hut. So, we should build anything that has 6 or more turns needed, other than a settler. After the hut pops, hopefully a settler, that would be a big boon, else hope its a tech. Once we pop it, switch the cue back to the settler, which should be ready as soon as we hit the size three. Once we approach size three, however, watch the happiness of the city to make sure we are not throwing it into disorder (I don't think it will at size three, on regent level, but still watch it).

After the settler, I say bang out spearmen until we approach the ability to produce another settler (i.e. turn to size three at about time settler is done). The second city can be used for warriors (how many do we want), until its in sync for a settler.

From the scenario I was running, hitting size 3 did not throw the city into disorder, and the first settler will be done in 3200 B.C. (or basically one turn after we hit size 3).

After that, population increases should be every 5 turns IIRC... due to the wheat bonus being fully up and running. When we are size one, this will hinder production a bit, but due to rapid growth and the fact that Bronze Working should come online in 2950 B.C., we can make our next unit a spearman.

Something interesting which I noted in my scenario that we may want to watch for and verify, whenever there is a population increase, we get a 2-shield bonus to the production queue on that turn only. I had never noticed this in the game before, and I don't know if it is a result of changes that firaxis has made with subsequent patches but I like it

Full PM-box? Change here!

Cool.

Oh yeah, I forgot Bronze Working's not done yet, so any spearman in my list should be a warrior. Once we get to 2950, we can build the spearmen to protect each city we have at that point.
