I'm new to the MOO series and interested in playing multiplayer games. I tried posting questions on the official forums and had my questions moved to the multiplayer forum (which I wasn't aware of). Unfortunately, there is very little activity on that forum--which worries me a bit. Anyway here goes:
1. Is there an active multiplayer community? Looking at Orion Sector suggests there will be but there seems a shortage of mulitplayer information.
2. Is Orion Sector the mechanism of choice for finding multiplayer games? Any other mechanisms?
3. Does the racial skill, 'diplomacy' have any impact on non-AI players? How about Casus Belli?
Thanks,
LeTharg

Hey.
Yeah I frequent the official forum (or used to before all these stupid MySQL errors!!!
Anyway, i'm no beta tester.. nor am i some official representative, but i have picked up a thing or two while perusing the boards about multiplayer..
1. Well there WILL be an active multiplayer community once the game comes out.. In fact a lot of people have mentioned that they will go straight to the multiplayer games and will learn the game that way.. So have no fear about multiplayer... The reason that not too many people went to the official multiplayer forum before was because the mods were pretty lax with letting EVERYTHING ride in the general forum.. but they've changed that.. or it seems that way anyways..
2. There are several ways to get onto multiplayer games. There is the GameSpy Arcade. (I have never heard of it/used it, so maybe someone else will be able to help with that one) Then there is direct LAN connection, and TCP/IP connection (where you connect via IP addresses n stuff). Uh.. the OrionSector admin is trying to set up some tournies, so you may wanna go there for more 411.
3. I think that Cassus-Belli definately has an impact on human players.. i mean, it is regarding your citizenry, not other leaders... However, stuff like +10 diplomacy probably wouldn't work... If i didn't want a trade agreement with your empire, no bonuses you have will "force" me to say yes to it, if that makes sense..
BTW. a quick hello to everyone here at apolyton!

I think you're wrong there, the diplomacy trait will affect other human players. In this game, you're the guiding force of your people and what you do will affect the mood of your people. Declare war on a empire that has a very high Cassus-Belli and you get massive unrest and a very good chance of a civil war. The diplomacy trait would be like selling ice cubes to Eskimos. If your people think that selling that nice big Battleship for the cost of a lancer is a very good idea, its not a good idea to disagree with your people unless you have forces to back up your decision and that would cost you money in the end. Task forces are expensive.

Also consider that there will ALWAYS be at least one NPC in the form of the New Orions.
