hi everyone
i want to do a LONGTERM PBEM game with as many (human) players as possible
if someone knows a way to increase the maximum civ/player number for PBEM to more than 8, i would be forever grateful
i succeeded once to do so for single player mode, but it wasnt stable. 32 is absolute max i guess.
settings would be:
Gigantic Map
Donut World
20-50% land mass
100% diverse territory
Blood Lust & Pollution On
Ruins and Wonders On
rest discussable, or simply randomized
starting condition:
100 gold, 1 settler
+ random by difficulty (think extra settler)
no easy ModLite or stuff
difficulty i propose:
Deity with max.barbarians, but im open.
not the lower ones though.
did i forget anything ?
hmm mail me to mathemagician@gmx.de if you are interested
oh and only people who are sure they want to play this game in the long run and dont change their mind after a week !
and who dont let turns lie around for longer than necessary before they make them. if u get the turn and u have time for it, make it.
also, please give me as much data as possible about during which hours of the day (use GMT time please, its at the bottom of the page) you will be able to do your turns "MOST OF THE TIME"
this is to optimize playing order as good as possible.
im from germany and have a couple of german/european players so far. so it would be good to get global
we will be using 24h rule for turn completion. then you would be nexted. that is, once i (as mod) checked my mails the next time.
CC to me always of course.
i dont look into your turns, i promise !
if i next someone, i just load the file, turn off my monitor, wait some time, hit the 'n' button and send the file onward.
if you miss your turn two times in a row, i assume you are inactive and keep nexting you until you tell me otherwise.
it would be polite (as well as efficient) though to tell me in advance when you wont be able to do your turns.
i dont want to kick anyone out later on, cause he doesnt like anymore. just if you fool me and tell me several times 'im active again' and still dont do your turns, i'll kick you.
thats all
come and join
;-)
have fun
rainer

Sounds good. I'll play, Mathemagician. If I'm accepted into the game, I'll take the Americans if no one else has them yet. Leader's name is my handle, "quinns". Just watch that "extra settler" you give out at the beginning (is that what you meant?) ... That can make a big difference. My email address is quinn2084@yahoo.com.

My availability is to play the turn within 24 hours. I can make that.
I think you only get an extra settler at Chieftain level, but we are playing at Deity so no one will get an extra settler.
I don't know how to go beyond 8 players -- but if this game is anything like the others around here (Eagles at War, Monkey 1, 2, etc.) this game will take a VERY long time with just 8 players, with civilizations switching players several times during the course of the game. 3 years sounds like a good estimate.

This post will be updated
if we get more than 8 people and we find no trick, lets just make several games.
well, i took about 6 hours to browse every possible help, text and other file of CTP and it doesnt seem like you can extend to more than 8 email players.
so here are the members of the all german game.
we will start today (sunday, 15.12.) at some time.
1.) myself (Rainer of the Dornheimer)
2.) Alex (Abisilator of the Dyneteks)
3.) Hatschy (Hatschy of the Canadians)
4.) Anne/Trever (Treanne of the Germans)
5.) Oli (Ashantia of the Jünger Ashantias)
6.) Tobi (Arkon of the Neucronen)
7.) Torsten (Torsten of the HobbyGods)
8.) Sandra (Sandra of the ...?)
this leaves the following players for the international game:
1.) Shaved Ape (King Kong of the Dutch ?)
2.) berXpert (berXpert of the Mexicans ?)
3.) geoff (Geoffrey of the Australians)
4.) quinns (quinns of the Americans)
5.) checkMate (checkMate of the Native Americans ?)
plus any players from the german game who want to join (probably just me).
6.) Mathemagician
so we would still need TWO players for the international game.
7.) Lunger (Chop feng-shui of the Chinese)
one more
8.) David42 (David42 of the Greeks)
if any of you guys knows a way to go over 8 email players please tell me ASAP, otherwise i will start the german game and wait for two more for the international game and then start that one with 8 too.

If we play within 24 hours rule, a turn every 2 weeks, 27 turns a year ( I forgot holidays ) ... 187 turns in 7 years... wow Kralj is right
---
But, if you can make a good sincronization maybe 3 years will be enough |
i really dont assume it will take full 24 hours for a turn.
in our all-german-speaking game we do 2-3 turns at some days. and then still we had the mentioned black sheep.
as far as i know you guys, we'll be much faster, especially with time zone synchronization
if i could just find a way to get to more than 8 players....
is there a special forum for such things ?
i would be happy if one of you could post there and ask

I think Kralj is right Mathemagician -- especially with 8 or more players. You say that you were averaging 2 to 3 turns per DAY with an 8 player game in Germany??? WOW! That's great... But, I don't think you will get that here . Look at the Eagles at War game. That started over 2 years ago and they haven't made it to turn 100 yet. Maybe if everyone is very diligent you will get 2 or 3 turns a week at best. So anyone signing up should know beforehand that this game will take about 3 years to complete.

nono im not saying we AVERAGE 2-3 turns per day.
but on the good days we had this number.
and the bad days were usually with those players not motivated to play, so i estmated we would have more good days with you guys around here.
but if all of you keep telling me otherwise..
well, anyway, as long as it takes 3 years and not 7, its fine for me
