Is it going to be fullscreen? Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The screenshot implies that the game will be fullscreen. Are there any plans for a normal windowed version?

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Hi Skywalker,

At the moment the game is very much a windowed version. Whether it stays that way, I suspect, will depend on how the graphics work out.

I don't know the technicalities but I can well imagine that there are significant differences in handling full screen or windowed graphics, and that one might work better than the other depending on how the graphics are to be implemented.

Hope this helps a bit,

Rich.

I'm very surprised you guys have decided to go with a windowed version up this point, because you lose a lot of hardware acceleration not going in fullscreen. In turn losing the acceleration is going to lower your FPS, and essentially limit the game's graphical potential. Then again it is nice to have a windowed version. However, I would still think a fullscreen game would be better in the long run.

Good reasoning - for a RTS or somesuch. I can see no reason a 2D TRB game should even need graphic acceleration to begin with.

Well, it all really depends on the amount of animations that are going to be included in the game. When a unit is moved the more time it takes to perform the animation processes the more time it takes for the overall move. Granted there isn't going to be much of a significant difference with one animation, but when several animations are taking place at one time the faster the animations are performed the better. I'm not really sure how many animations are going to be included with the game, but if it is anything like Civ3 then I would say fullscreen might be best. However, Civ3 is a major commercially created game, so I doubt there will be as many animations. Which brings me back to my original, it all depends on how rich the game is going to be with animations.

I personally like windowed games, because they don't make the stupid blink when I alt-tab (and because I HAVE to alt-tab grrr).

Make it windowed! I hate non-windowed games. You can't minimize them. As for animations, I always turn all of them off, so not having windowed mode for animations would stink IMO. If you can add a fullscreen mode, it's OK for you to do it of course.
