The Explorer's Guild continues to follow the mountains towards the north, our worker labors on, and our 2nd warrior team retreats to Madrid just in case the neighboring villagers send barbarians to attack us.

Drat! Yahoo Geocities is onto me. They're not allowing the images I post there to be viewed by outside sources because they believe that I'm simply using their site as a storage place for outside purposes.

Which is what I am doing, but I'm surprised the b*stards figured it out so easily.

Suggestions? Do I need to find another free host site? Do I need to just make a freakin' web page (and hope that none of the other teams surfs there accidentally? Or do I have to start sending all of my jpg images to Dejon to post for me?

Your screenshots don't come up right away, but work fine if I simply put my cursor in the location bar and then press enter. Very odd, and obviously annoying. Maybe they check the HTTP_REFERRER on the way in, because it works when hitting them direct (not through a link).

We've slipped to 5th in production - they likely all built mines.

From some stuff I was reading about the demographics, production is figured as the total of all commerce, food, and shields produced by your cities minus the food consumed that turn. We are at 9... (3 shields + (4 food - 2 consumed) + 4 commerce = 9)

We essentially already have mines since the cow and the forest+game provide the same as despot-era mined hills. With most other civs still at size one like us, I think we are likely tied at 3 shield for most civs. Legoland may be getting more though.

I think they just edged us out in other areas. They may be focusing on commerce and building up their treasuries or be by rivers that they've managed to road. They don't have more food or they would be growing faster than us, and I don't think despotism allows any tiles to produce more than 2 shields or we could have mined the cow.

I would suggest City #2 be built on the tile NW of Gold Mountain and E of the Hither Cow. (i.e. the Nearer Cow). That way our cities are near each other, our territory is compact, and we can fit more cities in Cow Valley (has anyone noticed the river beyond the Cows?).

City #3 could be built SE of the Silk Jungle. Again that would allow for room to expand and a compact, easily defended realm.

I agree with your #2 site suggestion, however I prefer directly W of the Silk for #3 - no overlaps that way.

It is not yet sure that the tile W of the silk is near a river.

Do we play at regent or monarch ?

Playing against humans - I think it is wise to keep our cities close together and to not waste any time looking for sweet spots or a way to divide up good tiles. *

Also, our second city is very important. It has to be able to be able to build on its own quickly (defense, temple), so I'd be happy to give it both cows.

*These ideas are not my own, someone (can't remember who) said much the same thing in our pre-game strategy discussions.

Oops, you're right. I had my direction mixed up. I meant to say one tile east of the silks. But I might like to propose to the southeast as well.

Even without the orthogonal grid, I tried to map out the overlap with the assumption that city #2 will be located just east of the nearest cow in Cow Valley.

1.) city #3 east of silks -- we loses the river-bonus hills just west of where the slaves are currently working but have no overlap with the other cities. We also immediately get two grasslands to work.

2.) city #3 southeast of silks -- we have a mountain and jungle tile overlapping between it and city #2 but we keep the river-bonus hills. (note: this would also prevent us accessing what looks to be a second grassland tile just out of sight to the northeast until our borders expand)

City #3 southeast of silk has access to the second grassland.
But for city #3, since we are at regent, the lux is not yet urgent. I wonder whether we should not explore the W of the second cow before deciding.

Oops, sorry, I meant directly E of the Silk. Looks like a couple of people interpreted it that way, too.

Where is T.E.G. headed next? The terrain to the NW and NE could easily sway this decision either way. There are many things more valuable than a hill with a river. There is also no rush on this, if we are agreed on the second city site.

Since no one else has offered any suggestions for the name of the second warrior, I suggest "Madrid Guard".

I am against delaying the founding of a second city. The proposed site (NW of Gold Mountiain) provides everything we need. It also will border Madrid after expansion, and will only require 2 turns to get to by road.

I know it does... but not until we get a temple in their and the borders expand. To only have access to one truely food-productive tile until we put a temple in place will slow growth for that city. Putting the city directly to the east of the silks will allow it to grow faster, and if there is one grassland there, there may northeast of that which would keep us growing once the border expanded w/o having to chop it out of the jungle completely.
