War Academy: Roman Objectives Support Apolyton

We didn't start this war, but we do have a significant interest in the outcome of what history will refer to as the Great War of Abananaba Minor. Our goal is clear. We must act to ensure that no power develops a hegemony over the subcontinent.

We Want: Caesar to shrink a lot
We Want: Hiawatha to grow a bit
We Want: Catherine to stay about the same
We Want: the Babs to stay in the game

I believe that these objectives can be met.

On the upcomming turn (1255 ab)
... we cannon fire on the Roman invaders and destroy them.
... we extend rail to HIW 5,15 and Dijon 6,17
... Build strong points on HIW 15 and Dijon 17
----------- HIW 15 is a natural Artillery site threatening Brundesium
----------- Dijon 17 is a natural Artillery site threatening Novograd
... Fortify a few Riflemen in the strong points
... use the strong points as storage places for any extra zoc units we have (Cav,Cannon etc)o
... Pillage Brundesium 11 and Novograd 2
----------- limits approaches to the strong points
... Obtain RoP Agreements with Hiawatha and Catherine

What! RoP's! Let me explain.

Russia
has troops in isolated Krasnoyarsk. We want to encourage Catherine to send those troops south. Also, Vladivostok 5 is a natural Artillery site threatening Ravenna. Even better, Vladivostok 18,19, and 20 are natural Artillery sites threatening Syracuse.

Hiawatha
controls numerous natural Artillery sites threatening Hispalis and Lugdunum.

I suggest that we want to capture Novograd and Brundesium for our own account, capture Syracuse, Hispalis, and Lugundum for Hiawatha, and capture Ravenna for the Babs.

This will result in Abananaba Minor having a reasonable balance of power for the intermediate term.

The assaults will naturally have to wait for RP and Artillery, but in the meantime we will have only a half dozen or so Riflemen tied down to the strong points.

This allows our main force buildup to continue in the north. And don't worry about the Artillery being used down there. As long as it stays on the rails, it can attack one target anywhere each turn.

I would approve of capturing Roman cities and handing them off to the Iroquois. This is a good way to effect the power struggle in Abanaba Minor.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Unless it is a wonder city or makes a logical, relativey easy extension of our empire, I also would like to give a few cities to Hiawatha. It will prolong the war, expend AI Resourcse and our troops get an all expense paid trip back to Apolyton.

But this is in the future (10-15 turns) we need to finish off our german foes first.

We need to play the power balance game with rome's enemies (our friends). I would even support trading replacable parts to the right allies.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Whether we keep cities or not will be largely determined by how close we have come to the "optimal cities" number, which with our forbidden palace should be 64. We currently have 47 cities, but even being short of the actual number means cities beyond the current ones that are far away from either capital (such as Roman cities...) will have CRIPPLING corruption. Keeping German cities (which should be close to the Forbidden Palace) would be superior.

So we'll see...

In this way, we'll probably achieve a diplomatic victory!

I think we should fight a limited, defensive war; but if we do actively invade, we should give away most of the cities we capture.

Our prime objective should be: do not lose land

Our secondary objective should be: weaken Rome just a bit. (not more than 3 or 4 cities, some pilliaging...)

You are partly correct. THe modified OCN depends on the Palace/FP Centricity. Except under a Communism Government, each of the Cities that have either the Palace or FP, have a group of Cities that they influance. So, any City is either Palace or FP Centric, depending on which is closer. Each Centric Group has it's own MOCN that corrution/waste is determined for.

THe MOCN is modified form the OCN (32) by the game difficilty & if a Courthouse/Police Station/WLKD(waste only) is present in the city. Our Base MOCN is 25, per Centric Group, without any other Modifiers.

That's why, any Zulu Cities that we might take in the future, will fall under teh FP and they will be relatively uncorrupt, but a Roman or Greek city will be highly corrupt, because they will be under the MOCN of teh current Palace location.

Until the MPPs are all activateed we should only fight within our territory.

If we do fight offensively against Rome, we should keep control of the terrritory covered by the cities we take over, even if the cities are hopelessly corrupt. (I'm not opposed to consolodating / relocation of some of Romes cities, but am against giving them away.)

We currently have a nice short easily defended southern border. Any cities we capture will be corrupt, and will needlessly extend that border. We will be better off gifting the cities to try and balance out the power on the subcontinent. Brundesium is the only city that is remotely interesting, and that is solely to get the wheat tile for HIW. This can be accomplished by capturing which shrinks it's culture and gifting to Hiawatha. As neighbors go, I would much rather deal with Hiawatha than Catherine, or Caesar.

I know it is dificult to give away a city, but there are historical precidents. We want to prevent a hegemony from developing on Abananaba Minor while we build our own hegemony on Abananaba Major.

Roadcage is right, We need to play puppet master in Anabanana minor. many of the cities that we can (and likely will) capture will serve us better (via income) in the hands of our "friends".

As much of the war will be faught during term 7, and since I will be the FAM, I will be looking closely at which civs get which cities and when.

I support gifting certain cities. Babylon is a prime candidate for these cities as they are currently the weakest AND not likely involved in the war. This , by the nature of the game can protect them from re-capture by the roman pigs. We have the oppurtunity to shape, stabilize and destabilize this reigon at OUR discresion.

*Bump*

Babylon just discovered war on us.

I sugest that the poition of the war involving Rome & Babylon be a purely defensive war on our own territory. This will allow us to focus almost entirely on Germany.

The Russians & Irqouisis should be able to defeat Rome & Babylon combiended in a manner that does't lead to either of them getting too powerful.
