There was no chat, at least none I would know of. Nimitz significantly improved our chatroom (it is now kind of "member only area") and arranged it so that I was able to "add" new members, too. But I was too busy to actually do that. Here is what I need all of you to do:

1) register your nickname with NickServ

• join the Poly chat under your nickname (try sticking to your regular Poly nick)
  
• type /msg NickServ REGISTER password your_email (do remember the password!)
  
• you shall then receive an authorization code from the Poly chat server to your email account in no time - just check your email account without actually leaving the chat.
  
• look at the authorization email, you will find the following line there: /msg NickServ AUTH nine_digit_code - type it in the chat window
  
• you should get a confirmation that your nickname has been successfully registered to you; next time you join the chat under your registered nickname, you will need to specify your password using the following command: /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password

Hi guys,

Just switched to my new computer and downloaded irc.

But it won't let me choose the "Sharpe" name, even after I loaded in the correct password.

Any suggestions? (especially as I won't be able to join the chat room if I change identities to say Sharpe1)...

Have you tried to use the Poly java chat applet? Does it work or not?

I registered my nickname (Spiffor, unsurprisingly), and identified to nickserv, but when I try to enter the chat, the window opens and closes immeidately. When i retry to enter the chat, I read I have been banned. Could anyone try to solve the problem ? Should 'Spiffor' be on the invite list ?

Spiffor, that is exactly the intended behaviour... Until I manually add your nick to the list of allowed chatroom entrants (which I have just done), you will be kicked automatically immediately after trying to enter. I can only add registered nicks to the list of allowed entrants - that's why me and Nimitz were unable to add all our members in advance.

Again, to everybody else: once you have your nick registered with the Poly IRC server, send me or Nimitz a PM or email, asking to be added to the list.

Hmm, now that I have switched back to my new computer , I will need to get a new game for mirc as it won't let me use Sharpe , will probably choose something like Sharpe1 perhaps

Will get back to you on my new name...

Will we be able to delete access for my old name if I switch?

OK, guys, the chatroom is now up and running again, thanks to Nimitz. The following members are allowed to enter it:

Sharpe

Anyone active, but not allowed to enter (Tiberius, redstar1?), make sure you register your nick and ask me to add you, if you want to be able to use the chatroom.

I have registered and installed mIRC on my main machine and shall have it running in the background almost all the time (to prevent the chatroom from resetting, which is the case if it's left empty for one week), so if you need to talk to me and I am listed as present in the chatroom, just drop in and say something... I should hear a beep then and respond promptly.

That's the intended and desired behaviour. I am able to allow only registered nicks in - when I was adding our members today, your nick was not registered yet and thus I was not able to add you to the list of allowed entrants.

With your nick registered, it was a matter of seconds to allow you in! Check it, please, but you should be able to enter now.

OK, I have been playing with mIRC a bit...

I am having it running in the background almost all the time now. The only problem is that I do not pay attention to it, which makes it kinda difficult to make me aware of there is someone wishing to talk to me...

Fortunately, I have been able to find out a workaround. If you can see me in the chatroom, just say WAKE-UP (using the capital letters). A handy mIRC function (called highlighting) will cause quite a long WAVe to be played on my machine then and I should immediately notice someone wants to talk to me. I should respond within seconds. If I do not, try again in a couple of minutes... if I still do not respond, chances are I am AFK or doing something that prevents me from chatting.

Sure

Launch mIRC, File-Options, expand "IRC"-Highlight. EDIT: Tick "Enable Highlighting". Press "Add", fill "WAKE-UP" (without quotes, of course) into the topmost field, click on the button beneath until it allows you to choose a WAVe you like. Finished. Oh, and I also set on the beep function you told me about - that is handy if you are talking to someone and doing something else at the same time.

Works like a charm. Just ask redstar1, he loves to use that to WAKE-(me)-UP.

I have tried getting into the chat room (#legoland PW: HisBrickness) and have been booted 3 times.

It worked once (about 3 weeks ago, when Trip helped me), but nothing since.

You shouldn't need the HB password (or any password), just a registered Nick that's on the room's approved list.

No luck

As soon as I connect to Apolyton.net, I get this message:

This nickname is registered and protected. If this is your nickname type /msg nickserv identify "password". Otherwise, choose another nickname.

Of course, by password is incorrect. So I guess I need a new password. Is the password case-sensitive? I'll try that.
