	DIA Discussion: Our Stance on Drafting Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

This thread is for DIA members only to discuss our party's stance on the Draft.

I'm personally opposed to a draft, except in cases of extreme national emergency. We have a professional army for the defense of our nation, and with railroads, our armies can move from one trouble spot to another in no time at all. There is no need to take workers away from the factories for the defense of Apolyton. Besides, drafted units are weak and they make people in the city they were drafted from unhappy.

On war time drafting: we must be very careful NOT to draft from the same city 2 times within a 20 turn time period unless we have cities in danger of falling. In addition, drafting should only be done on size 12 cities without a Hospital unless we have cities in danger of falling.

On peace time drafting: I'm against any peaceful drafting with the current size of our armed forces.

I am against drafting except if there is a national emergency. The troops it gives are sucky, and it is really problematic to lose a citizen in the draft, and lose another in unhappiness.
Drafting should be considered as a short-term method, only fitted dire circumstances.

I agree with Spiffor, there is no need for it, unless we are in dire straits. It would appear that give our current situation, we may never need it.

I only plan on Drafting from 5 more Cities. With the Additional Troops, and the Upgrades, we should be fine. But I will need them, atleast until the Factories come online and start pumping out the Mil Units.

I'm hedging my bets, but I'd really like those 5 extra Units...

we can have them build in a couple turns anyhow when the factories are finished , .....

The problem with that is that it will be AFTER the Factories are finished. I might need to Replace a LOT of Cavalry, so I need to be flexable on those Mil Unit Builds.

If things go well with Germany (and they WILL be a hard nut to crack), I might not need them. But It will give me added Flexability for the upcoming fights.

I'm only asking for 5, it's not asking for all 47 cities.....

If we build factories, we should have enough production to build the necessary infantry or cavalry w/o resorting to drafting (especially a measly 5 conscripts).

That said, I would agree that conscription would be the better option if you're going to have to build those units instead and thus more cities can be placed on building necessary improvements instead of military units... if the conscription doesn't create a serious happiness problem, it might be justifyable in such cases. We really need more improvements.

E_T and I can work that one out in the chat. I'm the one who has to make the final call on it and it will depend on how much we jointly believe the potential threat from Roman seaborn invasion really is (the ostensive reason why E_T wants those 5 conscripts).

That was my argument in the last chat. Rush some ironclads. The problem is that we're strapped for cash at the moment. That said, it will take an aeon and a half for that Roman galley and ironclad combo to reach us ANYHOW, so waiting 3 turns so we have the money to rush ironclads may not be such a bad plan.

hi ,

a couple clads shall do the trick , they only have to sink the ship when it goes away , the prime mission is to spot an invasion , then a couple cav should move in , and we can always take a shot or two with some artillery at the ships , ......

dont rush them yet , but start to build them , ....

The reason that I only want 5 conscripts IS that it will still take time for the factories to come online and start producing. I don't have that luxury.

In reality, I would like more, but I can live with just the 5.
