Brotherhood of the Wolf Suffering from ads?

Scary French kung fu historical mystery. Totally kicked ass, I barely fidgeted at all. I found it particularly striking how it had a definite game resonance... one sequence reminded me of Resident Evil (the game, not the movie), another of Soulblade (think Tekken with swords). Not only a better looking horror film than From Hell, it didn't have unintentional laughs. Pretty good dialogue, some excess scenes, surprises, excellent fun. It's already home released in the states and Canada but IMO a good one to see in the theater (still can in Oz). I bring it to your attention because action/horror fans might shy away from a subtitled film.

For any who've seen it, several reveiwers online have said that showing the monster was a mistake. Personally, I thought that the biggest scares came when it was onscreen. I also didn't notice the jerkiness of motion or too obviously computer generated appearance some folks complained about.

Put an end to popups!

I watched it on DVD a few weeks ago. It got a little slow at some parts, I thought. And I agree with those critics, actually. From the point where they showed the monster on the movie became a little silly. They had built up great suspense until then.

And yeah, I thought it was not very well animated. But that's comparing it to the CGI graphics like Lucas uses, I suppose.

Overall, it's an enjoyable film well-worth checking out.

FemAdo, yeah, my fiancee didn't like her either. Actually, how she was penultimately dealt with was was one of my few problems with the movie. Her little comeback seemed to be pointless. Sorry to be so vague but I'm trying not to be a spoiler, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Boris, funny that such a good looking and stylish movie would lack on such an important effect. Possibly it was intentional, eh, or maybe the Henson people were just the wrong pick.

I don't understand... I've seen it in french (Le pacte des loups) at the theatre and hated it. Maybe its better in english. Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow was a much better movie IMO. I'm comparing the two movies because they have basically the same plot.

I downloaded it, all 1.2gigs, only to discover that it was in french with no subtitles.

I'll have to look for a subtitled version, I guess.

Just learn French, it'd be quicker than DL'ing another 1.2 gigs.

That's a bit harsh. I saw it at the theatre and enjoyed it. I especially liked the photography. It's not a great film, but its still better than "The brotherhood of the wolf" IMO. But that's just me.

I liked Brotherhood as well. Wasn't quite what I was expecting based on the title, but I enjoyed watching it and would watch it again.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I liked it, but I saw the subtitled version and was drinking a bit during the film, and the subtitles went by so fast that I think that I may have missed some of the plot. Fortunately, plot is always secondary in kung-fu movies, so I enjoyed the movie quite a bit anyway.
