Put an end to popups!

It always interested me how the USA had those huge stars on the hulls of their WW2 tanks!

I can't help thinking it must have made a Panzer gunner's job that bit easier!

Well ... I think thatīs basically the same with those "Balkenkreuzen" on the German tanks ...

IIRC, the Germans initially used only-white crosses to make it easier for the Luftwaffe pilots to distinguish them from enemy vehicles ... but those white crosses made the Polish anti-tank gunners quite happy and so the Germans painted most of those crosses black ...

Thanks all. Jim: if you check this gif you'll see I've only used 164 (not 24 million!) of the possible colours available in a 256-colour gif; this means I have lost no colours or definition by saving the bmp original to a gif. Obviously a set of different coloured units would use up more than 256 colours, so check before saving a bmp as a gif. You'll also notice I HAVEN'T loaded the civ2 palette which certainly would reduce the detail / f-up the colours of the original bmp. The only reason I posted a gif was that png's are darkened by IE as explained by Catfish (and I've lost the gamma-correction-thingy tool to get over this), and bmp's aren't displayed by the forum.

As a sidemote to Typhoon: I really like your compilation of units for Patine's scenario (particularly the Japanese infantry!), but I suspect you have run into the png problem as well as it all looks a tad dark.

Here are slightly tweaked M3 Stuart and the later M5 Stuart as shown in the Eivind photo on the previous page:

Well, as I am with you about that colour thing I have to admit I am using Firefox, and - who would have guessed that - there does not seem to be a problem with too dark *.png files hereabouts ...

Anyway, thank you for that marvellous tank, Gareth!

The Kikka was designed as an attack bomber, and only two were finished by the end of the war. While it was based closely on the Me-262, the exact plans were lost enroute from Germany. So it was somewhat different, as this pic demonstrates.

Before begining, I must pay more tribute to your Stuarts:

Done.

Thank you for the comment on the infantry, but the shading was Curt's work, and I merely lifted it. Credit should go to him.

Regarding the .png problem, I'm afraid that the units look dark because they ARE dark. Like Steph I'm also using Firefox as my browser, and they look exactly like that. It could just be my eyes, though.

Bummer about the tutorial . I think its somewhere in this particular thread, around the time you started blessing us with your fantastic TOT coloured units. Maybe we could ask the mods to scrounge it up and move it to the Graphics Workshop where it will be more accessible.

I wonder though- would saving under IE result in the saved png becoming darker? If so, then it would of course be best to use .bmps when handling TOT units. One minor nag though- they don't show up in attachements as you have mentioned.

@ Tec

Couldn't be more right. A common misconception is that the Kikka is an almost 1 for 1 copy for the Me 262 Schwalbe. There a several distinct differences that would be obvious to the discerning observer: For instance, a smaller fuselage that did not taper towards the tail. Internally it was only half the empty weight of the Me 262, had folding wings for storage aboard aircraft carriers and conealment in caves. No guns, and the engines were scaled down versions of the BMW-003.

That's exactly the problem; I use IE (stupidly!) and I suspect that most others do too. IE darkens the units further; if I click and save your png it will be 10-15% darker than your original. There is a utility for stripping the gamma-correction thingy (Catfish, help: I don't know what I'm talking about ) from png's so that IE displays them correctly. I'll tral back through the thread.
