We need to begin more intense discussions on where we're going to place our next cities. Should we choose specific sites, or should we follow a predetermined pattern (uniform spacing)?

IMHO we should not follow a predetermined pattern, but rather choose manually where we want to place our cities in order to give those cities a boost before they build a temple and expand so that they can reach all the good tiles. We can however decide on the minimum distance that we want to keep our cities away from one another.

I'm not sure even a uniform minimum distance makes sense. We'd originally thought in terms of a pattern-based approach for defense, but little if any of our core will be vulnerable to land-based attacks. The important thing is that each city be able to work about 12 tiles, but that can be accomplished with some cities closer together and others farther apart about as easily as it can with more uniform distances between cities.
That being the case, we want to optimize in terms of (1) maximum use of bonus tiles (especially in our initial cities) and (2) taking as much advantage as we reasonably can of the available coast and sea tiles at size 12.

I would suggest that once a little more map is uncovered (most notably the rest of the South), anyone who wants to should start loading a screenshot in a graphics program and marking different combinations of city sites to see how they fit together. Then we can use the pattern we like best. (Patterns could be sent to NYE and then forwarded to his mailing list if he's willing to accept the hassle.)

Sounds like a plan... althought I think that in the South only a few possible patterns may come forward, it seems that in between the bonus tiles, there is little room for fancy stuff. We simply have too many bonus tiles to work with

Do you think you could throw the gidlines on in the map? It makes it easier for me to plan cities.

The scenario in the email account?

I'll check it out later

I've been around, there just hasn't seemed to be that much to post about.

Once we have the last of the black peeled back we can plan the grid. We will have lots of time...
