Before I buy MOO3... Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

...im going to see it in action first. If I cant find a software store that has it running then I plan to advertise on my local website resource for somebody in my same city who has allready bought it and is willing to let me see it in action.

Im not gonna throw away $60 for a game thats not worth the plastic CD thats its on. Hopefully it will be worth buying.

It'll probably be worth buying. I just worry it may not live up to the expectations of its rabid fanbase. People I know who bought Civ3 and not its predecessors were satisfied with what they got. This will more than likely be the case here.

I've bought the original Civ, CivNet, Civ2, Civ2mp, and Civ3.... While there are a lot of things I like better about Civ2mp then Civ3 (and PTW, which was given to me, is DOWNRIGHT HORRIBLE for anything other than PBEM and hotseat), Civ3 has something of a character its own that's appealing. So I can enjoy both Civ3 and the occassional game of Civ2 (because there are things about Civ2 that the Civ3 developers were idiots not to include... ).

that was quite good how you named a bunch of legal ways of getting to see the game instead of saying you'd try a warez version first

I plan on reading what goes on in this forum before making any decisions regarding this title.
Granted, I won't be out there playing it the day it comes out, but I can live with that. Spending $90 on a new game that ends up unplayable I can't live with.

See.. strategy guides are crap - and they should be half that anyway. $20 at most. Then you never go over $50 for any game ever, and if you`re patient you wait for it to drop to $35 (which they all do). By that time you can get better AND more up to date info online so you don`t need the strategy guide anyway.

Yeah, I usually wait a little bit after release with most stuff, just to get the feedback from those who bought it.

And sorry for the off-topic, but I've got to pay a compliment - after watching The Two Towers, I've concluded that New Zealand must be the most gorgeous place on Earth. You are a lucky, lucky person Lo Rez.

Why would anyone every buy a strategy guide these days? That's just utterly dumb when there are typically hordes of online guides published within days or weeks of a game's release....

Some people (like me) buy quality. The faqs at www.gamefaqs.com are free, and the Prima books are expensive. However, if I want a faq, I will buy the best...

The problem is that the ones at gamefaqs are the best, since they are written by the most rabid, dedicated fans. But if Prima gets their act in gear, I will buy their guides, when I want a guide.

Am I the only person who feels like a strat guide is cheating? I might pick one up from the bargain bin for something like Final Fantasy after I've beat it a jillion times because there's no way to get EVERYTHING without one. I'd hate to have my in-game strategy corrupted because I know race A is more powerful than race B when condition X is met. Isn't part of the fun figuring that out on your own?

Suffering from ads?

Its funny. Some people when confronted with the accidental deletion of their post, respond by writing a brief bit about what happened. Others respond by simply turning off their browser in frustration, and some just attempt to retype hte message. I have done all three at times, but I paticuarly seem to favor the second.

Sorry bout your post saber.

How bout some music to liven up the place?

As Lo Rez said, I'm from Australia, and hence using Aussie dollars.

Converting $90 Australian to $US would amount to... slightly more than a cup of coffee.

Anyone who buys a strategy guide must be either crazy or have too much money!
How much in-depth strategy could they have developed before the game was even completed?

The best strategy guides you can get are on forums like this one, the only problem is you need to wait.

I certainly won't be rushing out to buy this game ASAP. I can happily wait a year until it is drastically reduced in price. I am still happy playing MoOII. I played it all day in fact.

Some games tell you the time so that you wont be there ALL day. I know that SubSpace does, it was very usefull for getting me back to reality long enough to at least feed myself. But its too much to hope for MOO3 i suppose, I mean, SO many game options are no longer avaliable with todays new and improved game codeing technology.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I will buy the game as soon as I can get my hands on it. I'll probably enjoy it regardless of what other people experience.

I probably won't buy the strategy guide however. The last strategy guide that I bought that was worth anything was Alan Emrich's guide to the first MoO game. It gave you detailed information about everything, which allowed you to see how a particular weapon or technology would interact with others, and in turn, allowed you to make informed strategic decisions for yourself.

The problem with most modern strategy guides is that they're nothing more than an expanded game manual. I'm a tech writer and software documentation specialist, and most of the manuals that get released with games these days are insulting in how poorly they teach you how to play the game.

Well, Tolver, last time I checked (and I have yet to see this on a cut list), there's an "Alarm" feature in MOO3. So you won't forget to eat, shower, go to work, etc.
