I dont think they are the greatest band ever because something like this is a subjective opinion.

Which is why I said 'JUST ABOUT EVERYONECONSIDERS' them...

MRT144, you need to start learning how to read .

Furthermore even though it is subjective which is better, there are defined absolutes on which groups are considered 'good' and which are considered 'bad'.

For example even though books are subjective. 'Crime and Punishment' is a BETTER book than a romance novel.

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.

When the 'box' is everything, it is hard to go outside of it .

no, the box is your idea that your opinions are always right, without any regard to other peoples opinions. you cant see anything with relativism...its what makes you, you.

Also, says the boy that stated:

quote:
i respect the beatles but i dont have mania about them like some fanboys

So everyone that thinks the Beatles are the best band ever are 'fanboys'.

Stop treating your opinions as fact and stop talking in absolutes. I think you need to step out of the box!

Tired of ads?

I'm pretty sure that the Beatles are better than Bonn Scott and Agnus Young (*chuckle*). Even though Bonn Scott died way too young.

And which people have no regard to other bands accomplishments.

I'm sorry, but seeing you are a Settler, apparently you don't know the people here. Hueij and myself like other bands, you know. I'm a big fan of Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Metallica, U2, etc. Hueij enjoys a lot of bands himself.

So pray tell who are these people that ignore other bands accomplishments.

Or are you just using absolutes while not stepping outside the box again?

No one you would know...but i know them and they are annoying.

Yes the beatles are better song writers than AC/DC in my opinion, but i still like AC/DC more because they are more fun to listen to.

And i was here back in the old days Imran, you dont remember who i was nor does it matter because you still havent changed a bit.

Of course not.

After all, back in 1998, I was pro-choice and pro-legalization of drugs. Oh wait! Maybe I have changed!

So, wait... does this mean you don't think your opinions are correct? Why have them then? What's the point if you don't feel they are right?

There is no point in holding opinions if you don't believe they are correct.

Oh, and I'm not Arab... what, did you get that from my name? Very clever of you .

And of course a guy from Jersey is suuuch a redneck.

Boy, do you ever have any idea what you are talking about?

Believing your opinions are correct and believing they can be changed are two different things.

There is hardly ANYONE that does not believe their opinions are correct. Otherwise, what is the point of having them? What is the point of politics, because all that is are people voting on their opinions, because they believe them to be correct. They could be wrong tomorrow, but they are correct today.

Otherwise, don't have opinions. Opinions without any weight behind them are not worth having, and you'll have a shitty time defending them.

Learn something about ethnicity. Pakistan is NOT Arab, the Arab states stop with Iraq. Iran isn't even Arab.

i rarely voice my opinions in real life because i dont want to have to defend them. its a futile effort to have an opinion if you are only questioned every time you voice it.

isnt pakistani arab though? really? i mean for all foriegn relations purposes?

Why? That allows you to fully explore and define your opinions and try to come to what you believe is the truth for yourself. Without it, why even bother living, really? With a sense of truth for yourself (which could, and probably is, a different truth than anyone else has) what do you live for?

because i dont have time to explain every opinion i have. why cant people just except that i have a different opinion than someone else and leave it at that? it just annoys me every time i have to explain why i feel the way i do. especially on something as subjective as musical taste. escpecially when someone else has no intention of even respecting my opinion and they just want to tell me why im wrong.

Because they want to convince you that your opinion is wrong . After all, if your opinions aren't 'correct' (as you yourself stated), they want to show you the right way.

They simply believe in another 'truth'. They believe you haven't embraced their truth, and want you to join them. If they can do that by trashing your truth (the adage is true, destruction is easier than construction), then that's the way they want to do it. They could also attempt to build up their truth, and dismiss your truth. Blame it on humanity trying to get people to agree with their truth.

Also blame it on 'Truth' and 'Morality' being inherantly democratic values. If 50% + 1 believe something is the truth, then it is the 'general' truth. This may conflict with people's 'specific' truth, but the general truth usually will win out, because a majority of people agree in its truthfulness.

Well that philosophy is my truth . Blame Mr. Neitschze for a lot of it, and some thinking and arguing on my part for it.

That's what Poly is about. Bringing people to your side of the 'truth'.
