Turn 17 Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

3250BC. Since Poobah seems to have problems with his email, I would play this turn, if nobody objects.

The Wheel ready in 3 turns, but we can't afford this, since we have only 5g and running 2gpt deficit. Lowering science to 70% makes The Wheel in 4 turns, while breaking our bilance even.

Grog should move W, towards the sea. All other warriors should move N. The worker moves to the floodplains, across the river.

Thoughts? Objections?

Got spare money?

Turn sent.

Science lowered to 70%. Setting now 3.7.0. The Wheel ready in 4 turns.

Worker moves W, across the river, to the floodplains.

Grog moves W, discovers fish and whale.
Gronk moves N. Nothing worth to mention.
Slash and Hack move N, towards the hut.

Screenshots made, will be sent in a few minutes.

Could you check how many beakers we are away from The Wheel?
It was suggested that if you set science to 10% briefly then only one beaker will be invested per turn. Then, according to how many turns are left, we'd be able to know exactly how many more beakers we need to generate.

Tired of ads?

20 beakers. With 70%, as was set, we invest 5 per turn and will be ready in 4 turns. With 100%, as it was before, we invest 7 and would be ready in 3 turns. 80% and 90% make us invest 6 per turn, we would still need 4 turns but run 1 deficit (although in the last turn we could get it back).

70% seems good. It only sets us back by one turn, it keeps our expenses balanced with our income and it doesn't waste any beakers (20 is divided by 5).

We'll have to adjust it, once we set one citizen on the irrigated floodplains. I think our reserves are still big enough to do that.

Hey fellas, just checkin' in from Toronto. Things seem to be going well.

Too bad about there being huts on the map. I was kinda hoping at this point that we had a no barbs map. As things are, we just found our first hut and the other teams surely have found more than we have, so it's a bit of a disadvantage. Of course, if we get a settler, all is forgiven.

Hmmm... so in theory we could have ended in 3 turns, with in total 5 deficit (2+2+1). Now, we can't anymore, but probably the extra cash gives us some leeway(sp?) for the rest of the game.

I'm just viewing the screenshots (came home half an hour ago), and there is one thing worth mentioning: we are not first in land area anymore. At least one of the other teams have settled their second city.

A few possibilities:
- either Lux or Demogyptica have grown to 3 at the exact time they built a settler, at least 2 turns ago. It could explain the rise in both their scores. They should have bonus food either way.
- or, one of the teams has found a settler or city in a hut. If so, it is very likely that again Lux or demogyptica had this luck.

My guess is that they simply built a settler, but this should be confirmed in a few turns, as they should build a third city very soon if they found a hut-settler... At any rate, they are faster then we are in their expansion at this point.

Yes, you are right, but then we could not have switched the citizen to floodplains at the 3rd turn, as was planned in the topped thread. I just checked it, and it would have changed nothing indeed, if we delayed the switch to floodplains by one turn, because we wanted to switch back a couple of turns later anyway.
