	SMAC German to English Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

hey guys Merry Christmas first. and second, i bought a copy of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire off eBay and got them today. I started to install it and to my horror... it was in GERMAN!!!!! Do I have to buy a totally new copy or is there anyway to change the German version to English? Im hoping that perhaps all the language stuff is in one small tiny file that someone could send me, and not like embeded in every file on the entire CD.

update: inside the Data folder there are text .txt files in German. Does anyone know If I replace them with the english version if everything will be okay?

I just want a version of SMAC that I can understand Santa. Please I've been a good boy! hehe!

THANK YOU!!!!! i replaced all of the text files and now i can read everything, many of the voices are now in english too. oh and did i say THANK YOU!!!!!

I took over a faction in an ongoing PBEM some time ago and discovered that many, but by no means all, of the 'messages' came out in German. The stuff that pertained directly to my faction (like completed builds) seemed to be in English (as is my game setup), but Native life events and battle reports seemed to be in German. Most of the messages were deciferable, although sometimes it was challenging or ambiguous when key words were not guessable.

I presume that that game was originally set up by a user of the German version, but maybe it always happens with mixed language versions and I never had the occasion before. I suppose that non-english speakers must be stoically putting up with this sort of thing all the time (please accept our thanks and sympathy), but I found it surprising that I hadn't seen any mention of it in the SMAC/X context before.

"Psycho-virus" sort of undermines the story elements. What's mind-worm in German? Maybe they wanted something shorter.

Well there are enuff Germans arround to ask your difficult SmacX-Meaning Messages..
but you should know all Screens right form your Mind without needing to read the Text :P

Link still didn't work for me, but thanks to pumilamac I got the file at the other site.

I would translate Mind-worm to "Gedankenwurm" or maybe even "Psychowurm". But virus??? I wonder if the translator watched that terrible ST:TNG-episode where the Enterprise was infiltrated by a "macro virus" that grew and eventually became bigger than a human... argh!
