History
The Island of Northalia was settled in the 400's AD by the Inuit and in 800's AD by the Vikings. The two ethnic groups co-existed and eventually merged, forming a single ethnic group with a common language, religion and culture by the 1300's. The Island was origionally made up od over 20 independent city-states with economies based on fishing on the coast, and agriculture and goat herding in the interior. In 1612 Halnosunt Kratlasson, leader of the interior city state of Sigyntul united the Northalians after a 100-year drought distroyed the city-state political organization. He created a constitutional monarchy that would last until 1892, when the populance, fed up with the government's corrution and backwardness, went into revolt. The Communists and Libertarians jointly set up a Republic and made The Great Economic Comprimise, The economy would be free market, but all the private businesses would be co-ops. This constitution has stood to this day.

Geography
Northralia is an Icland-type ocean-ridge island about twice the size of Borneo . It's climate is that of the Pacific NW, with a small area of Mediterranean climate in the souther part of the island. The island is covered with huge forests of Scotch Pine, White Pine, Sycamore Maple, European Common ('English") Oak, Little-leaved Linden, American Arbor-vitae, Whte Ash, European Ash, Tuliptree Magnolia, American Sycamore, and Common Juniper. Lots of fish on the coast and in the rivers and lakes. Many volcanoes, some active. Rich volcanic soil pefect for wheat, barley, and deciduous fruit trees.
