From what I've read, there are very few things that you can do to "appease" a war bent AI, especially if they are coming for you...

Japan is "Gracious" to us. That's as good as it gets. They may still betray us, but the risk is as small as it can get.

Perhaps we can have some forces ready to blockade a large enough portion of our coast line on the main land and Uber Island to prevent a landing from Japan if they have a transport in the area? Even workers would do the job. (On an overseas attack, the AI prefers to land the units first and when you ask them to leave declare war.)

hang on , that tricks does not work all the time , last night in a game the AI came up with the idea of sending a transport with its marine corps in it

, we could try to get flight and airlift units back and forth when needed , ......

we should need a couple more units just in case on Uber Island and at least twenty more infantry on the mainland just to be sure , ....

Panag - we're going for Tanks, so flight is more than 10 turns away. Also add 2-3 turns for building an airport in some cities, and then we can move AT MOST, if we disrupt our current build orders, 3-4 units per turn. No. Doesn't work.

we need to do something in case an attack is directed at Uber Isle , since we have almost total control with our ground forces over the continent it might be wise to research flight and its benefits , .....

I think that Japan already is at war with China though. However, we could still sign a military alliance with them against China. That might deter them slightly.

We most definately do NOT want another alliance now because that would restart the 20 turn war clock. We just have to be wary of the Shogun and hope that he is after the Babs or Rome.
