Now- what about over-the-net play? Increase Your PM Length

I haven't gotten the game yet only because I don't have any to play with here at home. For those of you who have it and might be interested, is play over the net going to be feasible?

Used to do this for A&A, and it worked out well (though the dice rolls [before we got our roll bot] had to be mediated by a GM).

Yeah, this will most likely mean having to leave your board up, and keeping turn logs and piece position info, but think of the hassl.. I mean FUN it will be!

Whoa. That will necessitate us being online for very long periods of time, and a game will likely last more than a few days even with just a few participants.

The only way this could really be done is for those in similar timezones, with similar time commitments. ie not me.

If there are more people who want to play the game over the net, it might be a good idea to make a pc-version of the game

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Civilization: The Boardgame, for PC, from the makers of Civilization.

So I have to ask then: why did we bother with a whole forum for this game?

You played A&A over the internet? I would be quite interested to hear how you set that up. I can only imagine that the games must have taken quite a long time to complete that way.

On a side note, are many of you out there A&A players?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

So, you basically set the game up, and leave it there for the duration of the game???

My cats would just love that, they would be doing then colatoral damage

As improbable as that may seem to some: yes, that's exactly what we did. It was a whole group of AOLers that played via e-mail. We'd setup the initial positions, and each player would put their turns in a list (5infantry France->Germany, etc.). A GM (and later, a nifty little bot) would do the rolls, and, in a specific algorithm, would tally casualties. After each turn, we would have to go through the whole board and list what pieces were where for reference purposes (i.e., cat knocks everything down, or there is a discrepency).

Yes, it takes a bit of time to play, but usually not anymore than say, a PBEM game of Alpha Centauri. Hell, we even had tournaments and such.

How long did a game take?
estimated guess is fine

I only played A&A once which is a pity 'cause it sure is a good game.

let me think...

I think a week or two, if memory serves. Usually a concession was reached once it was obvious you couldn't win, just like in Chess.
