PTW Succession Game - The Celts Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I'm starting a Play The World succesion game, and our civ will be the Celts. We will have 6 players maximum (minimum 4). I would like to start as soon as possible. If you would like to play, please post a reply in this thread, and give your preferences for world options (# of civs, world size, barbarians, game level, climate, temperature, world age, landmass size, water coverage, etc). As soon as we get enough players, we will start!

Attention: you will need the latest patch (1.14f)

What is a succession game? (for those who don't know) A succession game is a way of playing civ where a player plays the game for X number of turns (usually 20.) Then, that player gives the save game to the next player, and the he/she plays X number of turns, and then he/she passes the file on to the next player, and so on. It is somewhat like mutiplayer civ, but everyone is playing the same civ in succession.

And Happy New Year!

Sure, I'll join in. I tend to pick odd world options, though.

# of civs: I usually play with around 7 or 8 civs.
World size: I usually play on a large or huge map, because it gives lots of space to spread out.
Barbarians: Sedentary or Roaming
Game Level: I have to admit I usually play on Cheiftain because I'm lazy, but probably Regent would be better.
Climate: Normal or wet
Temperature: Normal or Warm
World Age: Doesn't Matter. 4Bil will be fine.
Landmass Size: I usually play on Pangaea.
Water: Low, because it gives more land to spread out on.

I will join in.

Just give me a few days to get my copy of PTW

Those are my preferences:
Number of Enemies: 6 (that was your maximum Jonny, otherwise I'd like even more)
World Size: Standard or Large.
Barbarians: Don't care (Random)
Game Level: I'd like at least Regent or Monarch
Climate: Normal
Temperature: Normal (that way we have every kind of terrain)
World Age: don't care (Random)
Landmass: Continent
Water: Medium

I think we will start the game when Giovanni gets PTW. I wanted to have more than 3 players, but there doesn't seem to be too much interest in a PTW succession game. (Maybe most PTW players just don't come to the stories forum.)

Giovanni: When I said 6 players maximum, I meant 6 humans maximum in the succession game. I have no maximum for the number of AI civs.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well, we have 4 players and Giovanni will get PTW tommorow or the day after (hopefully.) I'm starting the game now.

Some Basic Rules (to help keep the game going):
- On your turn, you can play 10-20 turns. (This way you can play more or less depending on how much time you have.)
- You have 72 hours to play your turns (starting when the previous player passed the file on). If you don't play your turns within the alloted time, play skips to the next player.
- Reminder: you must have patch 1.14f.

The Order of Play:
1. Jonny
2. chairmanmeow
3. Giovanni Wine
4. trickey

World Settings
(I tried to pick the most popular option - when there was a tie, I chose the winning option)
# of Civs: 8
World Size: Standard
Barbarians: Roaming
Level: Monarch
Temperature: Normal
Climate: Normal
Age: 4 Billion
Landmass: Continents
Water Coverage: Low (60%)

I'll have the save up as soon as I can.

It was the year 4000 BC.

Brennus, leader of a tribe of nomads calling themselves the Celts, stood before a large grassland, continuing for miles. It was interrupted only by a large river. He turned and looked to his people. "Here," he said, "is where we shall build our first city."

For thousands of years, the Celts had been nomadic people. However, Brennus decided that this was the time to settle down, build a city, create an empire, and finally rule the world. He knew that it would take a long time before he could rule the world, but this was a start. He named the city Entremont, as he was instructed to by the gods.

Entremont is surrounded by grasslands, some with shield bonuses, and 2 with wheat bonuses. There is a forest nearby, and a great river runs through the land.

The people of Entremont soon began to research new technology. They started researching bronze working, and to help research go faster, Brennus allocated 90% of commerce to science.

Workers started to improve the terrain around Entremont.

In 3750 BC, the Celtic Armed Forces was created with the completeion of a warrior unit. The warriors were sent out to explore the land around Entremont. The city started building another warrior.

In 3500 BC, another Warrior was finished. He was to be stationed in the city, to protect it from barbarian incursions. A settler was begun.

In 3350 BC, the exploring warriors had discovered a minor tribe. When they entered their village, they were suprised to find 3 barbarian warrior units waiting to attack them. Out of the 3 barbarian warrior units, only one actually attacked the explorers. They were able to kill the barbarians with ease. The other barbarians ran off in various directions.

In 3150 BC, the Celtic wise-men discovered the secrets of Bronze Working. They then began pursuing the knowledge of the Wheel.

In 3100 BC, the exploring warriors found another minor tribe. When they entered it, they found a warrior unit willing to join the Celtic Army. This new warrior unit was sent to explore as well.

In 3050 BC, barbarian warriors attack Entremont. However, the defending warriors fight well, and not only do they defeat the barbarians, they become veterans as well!

In 3000 BC, some of the people living in Entremont completed forming a Settler unit, ready to build a 2nd city for the Celtic Empire. The settler is sent on its way to a new city site, guarded by the warrior that once defended the city of Entremont. A Spearman unit is being built to now defend Entremont.

It is now chairmanmeow's turn.

I completed 15 turns.

Here is generally what happened in that time period:

3000 BC - The Workers began work on Mines northwest of Entremont, on the wheat tile, and the warriors continued exploring south of Entremont

2900 BC - Nothing much happening. The settler is moving with its escort to a location near the floodplains northwest of Entremont.

2800 BC - Alesia is founded in the desert between two floodplain areas. Its city radius slightly overlaps with Entremont's, but that shouldn't be a major problem.

2710 BC - The Workers began building a road to Alesia

2630 BC - The Spearman in Entremont is completed. Another spearman is being built to be an escort for the settler being built in Alesia.

2430 BC - Research was completed on The Wheel, and the next area of research is Horseback Riding. Another spearman was finished in Entremont, so work was started on Barracks, so all future military units will start as Veteran. Also, a barbarian attack on Alesia was successfully stopped by the warriors protecting Alesia.

Since there were some problems with a SAV file saved with an english version and my Italian version of PTW I had to do some strange tweaks to make it works

I hope that the next player won't have any problems with the file, otherwise I will have to leave this Succession Game...

Anyway... here is my turn

2350 – King Giovanni Wine rise to the throne of the mighty Celtic people

2270 – Entremont rech the city-size of 4, although since one citizen is unhappy he is sent to be a tax collectr, while the others are ordered to switch production from baraccks to temple

2110 – Entremont complete the temple, production switched back to baracks

1990 – Contact made with the Russian people, and the city of Kiev was discovered, the Russian have knowledge of Pottery and Masonry wich we do not.

1950 – Bracks completed in Enremont, Spearman began to train.

1940 – Horseback riding discovered, the russian now have Iron working and Mysticism which we need, King Giovanni decides to put the science rate at the minimum and just buy the techs from the Russians

1830 – civil disorders erupt in Entrmont, 1 citizen is ordered to became a tax collector

1675 – Alesian people are dying of plague (damn it, we just needed 1 more turn before the settler was ready) King Giovanni go there to raise the morale of his people, Settler production switched to Temple there (no need to waste all those shield )

1650 – Iron working was bought from the Russian for Horseback riding and 80 gold (lump sum) no iron deposits are discovered nearby.
During his visit in Alesia King Giovanni got sick and died at the age of only 700 years old.

1600 B.C. trickey becomes king.

1550 B.C. After listnening to his people complain for centuries about how they have no place to worship some "God" of thiers, trickey decides to shut them up by building a large building for them to go and pray.

Also, times are tough in Entermont. Some younger, more industrious families decide to head to out the open wilderness to live by themselves. King trickey is none to pleased with this, and decides to send some some spearmen to escort them.

A young group of Celtic warriors, dying for thier first taste of blood, decided to attack a group of wandering nomads all dressed in white. They won a desicive victory , and are hungry for more.

1500 B.C Pottery bought from Russia for 90 gold.

1450 B.C. One of our wandering warriors notices a town to the north of Moscow. He goes to investigate, and realizes it is not Russian, but they call them selves something alog the lines of Ger-Mans.

The people that left Entermort finally decide they have moved far enough, they open thier backbacks, and shout out Lugdunum for some odd reason. That will be the name of the city forever.

1425 B.C It seems those strange men in white our young warriors attacked had brothers! A band of people, dressed in exactly the same way attacked us. But this time they were riding strange beasts, and seemed to have a stronger attack. Oh well, id doesn't matter, our young warriors were victorious again. King trickey was very pleased with thier tale, and for that, he called them all veterens and incresed thier armour so they could take more damage without dying.

1400 B.C More white men spoted to the South-West of Entermont.

1375 B.C At last, a trend is developing. More young and industious people leave Entermont to go find a new place to live. trickey, as before, sends guads to monitor them.

1350 B.C nothing

1325 B.C trickey begins building a Granary. He does not inted to actually build it, but to switch the already availiable inferstructure to something else (when he thinks of something worth changing it too) a library maybe. A very GREAT library that could be.

1300. B.C Those adventorous young lads decide to settle down aswell. But before they do, King tricey (beginning to feel the effecst of old age, and knowing his reing will soon be over) decides to immortalize his name. The new town is name TrickeyVille.

END OF TURN

Ok, that was a ok turn. One big mistake i made was founding TrickeyVille one square to far away from Entermont. Now it is mroe corrupt than it should be. But that can be overcome. Secondly, we are going to need a war soon. Russia and Germany are getting to big, Were are going to HAVE to go to war, whether we have iron or not.

And last but not least, the placeholder. The Granary will be build in 9 turns. Masonry will be discovered in 6 turns. When we get masonry, switch from Granary to Pyramids asap. That will be our placeholder for the Great Library (Pyramids arn't gonna be too important on this map, seeing as it is only standard.) Then head for Literature (or beat it out of Russia/Germany ) . The great library will let us run 0% science while ripping up the other civs with our Galic Swordsmen.

Btw, those are just suggestions, if you can come up for a better stratgy, then use it.

The Celtic Empire: 1250-775 BC

In 1250, after King Trickey dies, Jonny II becomes the new Supreme Despot. He promises absolutely nothing to the Celtic people, but they love him as their ruler. They know that as Supreme Despot, he has the right to kill anyone that opposes him, so everyone is nice to him.

In 1225, a group of brave adventurous people forms a settler unit in Alesia. However, the garrison in Alesia cannot go with the settler, as a horseman dressed in the white clothing are nearby. The settlers go to Entremont where they will meet up with a spearman from some other city.

In 1200-1175, everything was quiet.

In 1150, our warrior exploring the north gets killed by a group of the white clothed people. However, our warriors did fight valliantly. Also, the spearman in Lugdunum is sent to go join our settler waiting in Entremont.

The year 1125 brought the finishing of a Temple in Lugdunum. A spearman is being built there. Also, our workers connect 'horses' with a road to Entremont, these horses could prove to be a valuable military tool.

In 1100, we celebrated a new century. Unfortunately, Supreme Despot Jonny had a few too many drinks, and fell off the roof of the Palace. Miraculously, he landed in a soft, giant pile of wheat, and survived. Other than that, nothing happened.

In 1075, our Somewhat Wise-Men discover Masonry. They start working on Alphabet, which the Germans already know. Entremont begins working on the Pyramids, which Despot Jonny describes as "a really, really, really big Granary which also serves the purpose of honoring the Gods and past Emperors.

In 1050 and 1025, nothing much happened.

In 1000, a city was built NorthWest of Entremont, along the river in the plains. It was named Richborough. No one knows why this name was chosen. Some say it was named for the rich, fertile lands surrounding it, but others say that it was named Richborough because the guy who built it was named Richard.

In 975, nothing too important happens; Alesia finishes a spearman, starts worker, thats all.

In 950, the city of Tblisi is built by the Russians just to the north of Alesia, near the gems. This makes Jonny very mad.

In 925, Jonny declares WAR on the Russians. The production in Alesia is changed from worker to Archer.

In 900, our veteran warrior attacks and destroys the city of Tblisi, stealing 18 gold in the process. (Tblisi was defended only by a conscript warrior.)

In 875, nothing happens.

In 850, the Somewhat Wise-Men discover Alphabet. They start work on Writing, which the Germans have already.

825-800, nothing happens.

In 775, Alesia finishes its archer. About a month after this, Jonny II dies from a bladder infection, after an almost 500 year reign.

GENERAL NOTES:
We should try to get Literature ASAP and start working on the Great Library, we are behind in tech.

It appears that we have NO IRON in our general area!!!

We are at war with the Russians, but I think that the Russians and Germans are at war with each other. I saw a Russian city razed and a German one built in the same place. Russia may be weak at the current time, we may want to invade them now.

It is now chairmanmeow's turn, but he said that he probably can't play. So, I think it is Giovanni's turn now, unless chairmanmmeow says otherwise.

is a city-size 5, well guarded by Spearman and warriors
370 - Gergovia founded to our south, A white horseman appear very close to entremont, an
Archer is quickly sent to defend the city, while the spearman production should only take
one more turn, King Giovanni II goes out of the city to attack said Horseman, but his small
army is quickly overruned by the barbarians, King Giovanni II died in the battle, his head
was chopped off, and throw back to the city as a barbarian "gift". In the meanwhile reports
from the battle shows that the Russians have managed to raze the German city of Munich to the

Sorry for messing up the order of the succession game.

350 BC - Meow becomes Chairman of the Celt Dictatorship. The Celts are currently at war with the evil Russians.

330 BC - A barbarian invasion near Lugdunum is put down by the heroic spearmen. Chairman Meow watches from his underground bunker.

310 BC - In retaliation for the barbarian loss at Lugdunum, the Angles start a massive uprising near Gergovia, and the Magyars start an uprising near Moscow. The Chairman decides it might be a good idea to hide under a rock somewhere northeast of TrickeyVille. Meanwhile, he gets rich selling gems.

290 BC - A lot of barbarian horsemen attack Georgovia at once. The spearman repels most of them, becoming an elite unit in the process, but was killed by the horsemen, who then ransacked the Celt treasury, reducing it to 58 gold. Meanwhile, Literature is completed, and research is begun on Map Making.

270 BC - The project in Lugdunum is changed from The Colossus to The Great Library. The workers are busy building mines around Lugdunum to reduce the time it will take to build the Great Library (currently 71 turns).

240 BC - Bad stuff happened. The Russians attacked and killed the spearman fortified on the mountain outside Moscow, and even more barbarian horsemen showed up near Giovanni Vinorum.

230 BC - The war with Russia is not going well, so Meow gets out from under his rock and decides to try to negotiate with Russia. He starts with a deal in which Russia would give the Celts Map Making and Polytheism for Peace Treaty. The Russians seem very favorable toward this proposal. Meow gets greedy and tries to find out what Russia is willing to give up. The final deal is that Russia gives up Polytheism, Map Making, the city of Sevastopol, their world map, and lump sum 100 gold for peace. Bismarck looks pissed.

210 BC - The barbarian situation is now under control, as the barbarian villiage near Gergovia has been destroyed, and most of the horsemen have been killed. The Chairman apologizes profusely to Bismarck, and is able to get Bismarck from "Furious" to "Annoyed."

190 BC - Nothing much happening.

170 BC - Fighting Barbarians again. The cultural advisor tells Meow that the Germans started building the Hanging Gardens. Meow hides under a rock.

150 BC - The Russians have built an embassy in Entremont. A right-of-passage agreement is signed between Russia and the Celts (just in case...)

Signing the peace treaty with Russia while still in an alliance with Germany was a mistake, but hopefully everything will turn out well. I tried to patch up relations with Germany and Russia.
