Even hard and fast rules are subject to a degree of interpretation. When spam threads are less common, I'm more tolerant of a few of them, but when they start to proliferate, then I kill them. I usually just ban people though, it's ultimately less work and more effective to yank others back in line.
I also outright deleted one, so this will be number seven in a few minutes.
The timing issue is simple: I was away from the computer for a while, so when I came back, target threads were all close to the top of page one.
The women peeing upright thread should be obvious, even without the spam.
Once a thread topic is killed off by spam, and nobody seems to be trying to stay on topic, that's a sign it's ready for the toaster.
The avatar one was headed for an argument and insultfest, and if someone really wants to whine about an avatar or whatever, they can do it by PM to the poster or to the admins, not by a thread.
Threads that refer to posters by name, that are in anyway insulting, baiting, etc., are deleted, and I almost always ban the threadstarter.
If a thread starts to degenerate into namecalling, I normally just ban people, especially if there's some actual discussion in the thread. Tonight, I closed a couple going in that direction, but let the people go.
Copycat threads are listed as violating the rules, as are threads that get a little too inappropriate
