	Request for membership: Thoth Suffering from ads?

The winds of change are blowing through the lands of Gathering Storm! (me is feeling poetic today) Another player wishes to join our ranks.
Thoth expressed his great interest in our group and in this multiplayer demogame as a whole.
A word from Thoth

Vote Black if you have very strong reasons for not wanting Thoth in our team.
Vote Abstain if you have no opinion on the matter or don't care.

If after 48 hours there are no votes for Black, and assuming that a reasonable number of people vote White or Abstain, then Thoth will become a member of our team. A single Black vote would deny entry.

I haven't had any contact with Thoth before he has requested membership, neither have I heard anything about him. He seems nice, polite and mature. I vote white.

Abstain; I don't really think we need another player, so on a "50% needed vote" I might say no (I better edit that out if he joins ), but I certainly have no reason to "black ball" him.

As Shiber says he seems pleasant and mature and I don't think another pair of eyes looking at the forum could hurt us much.

I abstained as I do not know anything about him. I like the name though. I wonder if we need mor people in the ranks, but I would welcom him all the same.

We could set him on hold for a week or so...if he is still around by then, at least he shows persistence.

True, Randolph has a point, on the other hand, this isn't our forum and is meant to be for all members of Apo.
Just because he turned up late, doesn't mean he can't, shouldn't join.
I know I wouldn't like it, it that was done to me.
Who knows, he could turn out to be another Vel or Flash

I don't know him and abstain. But do we need yet more people? Imho, we don't. Perhaps it's time to say stop. We have 20 registered members, and a lot of them are active. More people won't add any benefit.

As for Thoth, he seems to have been around since year 2000, quite a long time. But at this point of the game we cannot know if he is spying for someone - altough i dont believe that, i have strangely formed a very positive opinion about Canadian people in general But its ofcourse always a possibility. (hey i have read too many conspiracy sites lately )

voted Abstain, dont think its my place to vote either way since dont know him or have seen his posts.

As for Thoth;

Since he hasn't posted that much, I thought I would waste some time by reading some of he's older posts.

He did alot of modding/helping for the CIV2 community.

Less active on the CIV3 scene, but he certainly knows his away around an editor.

I never saw him make one foul comment, allways friendly, making good insightfull posts with humor.
IE: an addition to the community.

He has become more active the last couple of days, so you might want to keep your eyes open (he posted in the stategy forum too).

(all that for someone I have never even heard of )

No, I'm afraid they weren't informed yet. I'll wait perhaps another day just in case the person who voted black did this by accident, and then inform Thoth.

I'm not convinced that a mere two white votes is sufficient to justify bringing someone in even if the black vote could be resolved.

Edit: It might still be worth a re-vote in case a mistaken black vote deterred others who would have voted white. In the absence of any explanation for a black vote, holding a re-vote is probably the only way to verify that the black vote wasn't an accident. (Consider, especially, that a person who voted the wrong way by accident may not even realize he did so.)

Basically, what Sir Ralph said was that in a case of 2 whites vs. 1 black a repoll is not an option. In case there were more whites but still one black, a repoll would have been illegal but at least considerable, but not in this case.
It's unfortunate that whoever voted black remains anonymous, but such are the rules of this procedure. I'll break the news to Thoth.
