Some more alternatives to consider (some real, some fictional; my personal favourites in bold): Camelot, Timbuctu, Walhalla, Babylon, Angkor Wat, Paititi (Incan name for El Dorado), Caral, This, Dwaraka, Kishkindha (a mythical city from the Ramayana which was ruled by a monkey king).

What about Acropolis? Greek meaning, "city at the top". It isnt on a mountain but it is "on the top" in some sense. Its more a central defensive position inside a city, but it makes a good city name all the same too...
I like Camelot too.

Why not have a naming system like the Civ3 DG one, where the citizens take it in turn to name the cities?
