At some point in the centuries ahead, I imagine the Dejon family may leave Madrid to settle a new city of España - though I know not where. Along such a trip to the city site, we may come up with names for prominent landscape features.
[OOC]
While I have no problems with everyone throwing suggestions "into the ring" for things, I think it would fit well with roleplay to have those charged with settler units (the future city governers) name prominent geographic features along their trip, and then around their city.
It is concievable because as settlers would normally travel more slowly over land than military units, they would spend more time in each place, and come up with names for landmarks, especially since they would also be considering the merits of settling in the lands they walk through.
If the team agrees, ruby_maser would be charged with deciding the names for features around Pamplona, and the future governor at site #1 (east coast) would have the same duty. They could name things either as they wished, or draw from team suggestions.

The Lonely Mountain stands north of Madrid, as you all know, and Lonely is the name given to it only because it is, of course, alone. There are no surrounding mountains.
However, I'd like to make a humble suggestion.
According to [Marcius Togianicus] Plothinus' Historia de Iberium, the Lonely Mountain was once the sight of a tremendous battle. According to the history, the Calamarquist Tribe had built a huge fortress there, and indeed, a portion of the keep still survives on Ghernicus' peak. There it was, so it says, the battle of the Squidimark was fought between the Calamarquists and the rampaging Vandals. The other tribes were amassing armies southward to come and fight the threat, but the most northerly tribe, the Calamarquists, my tribe, were under the first attacks, and lost some towns to the barbarous marauders. Don Francisco de History Guy Calamari the Elder there stood against waves of Vandal attackers in his keep, and won the name 'Hammerhand' for his valiant defense of the Squidimark as the rest of the tribes came up with their armies, surrounded the Vandals on the slopes of the Lonely Mountain, and crushed them. According to the histories, ten thousand Vandals, including their king Geneseric, died that day under a raging tempest in the last Battle of the Squidimark, the most glorious day in the history of the Calamarquist family.
I would like to ask that, in memory of the four thousand who fell in defense of Hispania in the Squidimark Keep, the Lonely Mountain be renamed simply 'The Squidimark'. Next to Santiago and Giant's Crossway, this is the largest battle in Spanish history, and should be thus remembered.
There is another reason, close also to my heart. It was where my father spent two years writing poetry and philosophy, and where he would have gone if he had not died so suddenly, for being in his blood, he loved no place better.
And so, once again, I ask that the mountain be named the Squidimark.

The Giant's Crossway has itself an interesting legend, as all we Spanairds know.
For according to the Mythologia of Togasticus Naso, it was the crossing ford of the army of giants over from one side of the bay to the other. We of course know it to be the best squidding spot in all Spain, for it is a long chain of small, rocky islands that are connected at low tide by a sandbar, and that is the only time it can be crossed without need of a canoe. At the beginning of time, the giant men crossed over the Crossway to invade creation, only to be destroyed utterly by the army of the spirits. Thus the area gets it's name.
The Battle of Giant's Crossway was, of course, the second and last great battle in the war against the Visigoths led by Togas the Magnificent, before he was crowned Thane Lord in 4000 BC. After Santiago, the only other Visigoth army was stationed at Giant's Crossway, under Vergwen, the second son of Alaric. The army was fought down the cliffsides to Giant's Crossway, and there entrapped on the sandbar, and laid siege. When high tide came, of course, our soldiers stopped the attack, pulled away, and waited. The tide came in, drowning thousands of the enemy. The rest were slain in trying to escape. Thus Giant's Crossway is rightly remembered as the final battle to destroy Visigoth power, and gain freedom for the tribes.

We have a tradition in the Pikesfan family that we came from the NW of Spain, from the mountains. We think these are the Sierra Brillantes.
I can’t remember our dialect [OOC Catalan] right now, but in our ancient language [OOC Esperanto] we called the mountains Montaro Brilanta.
The peak with gems we called Mont Joia, which is Monto Juvela in our ancient language, and it is a revered site, for it is where the first Rule of Etiquette was laid down by the Wise Women of the Pikesfan Tribe: "Ne enfurzu la fajron!", which roughly means "Don't make the fire flare up in blue flames." And the spirits were pleased with this rule, and showed their pleasure by making the mountain shine with little stones.
In our ancient language our tribal name is Ezoruloj, for in the streams there were a type of fish called ezoro. [pike] I don’t know what that is in standard Spanish. There were two of us tribes. We were the Nordaj Ezoruloj and were known for our music [OOC Northern Pikes, a great Canadian band late 80s mid 90s]. There were also the Sudaj Ezoruloj, but they were all killed in a great battle of all the Ezoruloj with other barbarians of which only a few of the Nordaj survived.

Just a few things to mention.
Firstly, [ooc] Giant's Crossway, Senor Jdjdjd, works, for Crossway is very definitely a word, or so says my American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition... [/ooc] the landmark known as Giant's Crossway runs across Squid Bay, and is something of a natural defense. As I stated above, it had a great historical significance to our people because of the surrounding of Vergwen's army, and the destruction at high tide. Without this fight, the tribes may not have conquered Madrid and held it for long.
Onto the landmarks of the Squidimark and Ghernicus' Peak...I must announce that after finished the Saga of Eustogkaro Horse-face, I will write my own short and humble account of the founding of Spain, as related in stories and customs from old. This will take us, in 12 chapters, from the birth of mankind to the fall of Madrid and the crowning of Togas the Magnificent. In the notes, I have already made several jottings on Ghernicus' Peak.
Ghernicus' Peak is not the name of the mountain itself, but of a tall towerlike pile of stones upon which the very best few of the valley below is offered. It is on the summit of the Squidimark, and receives it's name from the legends of Ghernicus II, the great Visigoth king, who's father, also Ghernicus, united the kingdom again, ousting the usurper Petrarchus and his brood. Ghernicus II was a general when he came to Ghernicus' Peak, and was there attacked by the mysterious She-Beast, half woman and half animal, who ate men, and hoarded great treasure in her cave, accessible still today by climbers. She dragged Ghernicus into the cave, depriving him of his sword, and he recovered his senses to find himself about to be devoured. He immediately fought the beast over back onto the peak, and threw her down to her death in the river below. Then, he rode back to his father and brought him to the treasure, restoring the wealth of the Visigoth Kingdom. Thus, it is not the name of the mountain, but of the great peak at it's summit. However, it should still be marked.
Still, the Squidimark is the most correct term for the mountain. [ooc] It's actually supposed to be a joke, taking the Ridermark from Tolkien and turning it into... [/ooc] The Squidimark was actually the name of the ancestral lands of the Calamarquists, and the fortress city of the Squidimark itself was built on the mountain. Over time, when the Squidimark and all other marks were abolished and the kingdom became one, the name of the fortress still held, and the mountain was then called the Squidimark, and is by most Spanish speaking people. It is in honor of four thousand Spanairds who died in that rainstorm in the battle "above the clouds" to keep back hordes of northern Vandals.
Another landmark I think should be pointed out is Grogrok's Backbone, which is the group of hills upon which our capital is built. As we know, it is named after Grogrok, the cow-riding giant who came to steal the gold of Togianicus Maximus, an ancient king of Madrid. Togianicus fought back, and though many thanes died in the bitter fight, the king slew Grogrok, and the giant fell dead. The king then jumped upon him, slicing off the head. The stream of blood that ran from it carved our river, and the ridges known as Grogrok's Backbone was really his body, turning into the hills over the millenia. Or so the legends go.

Hello everybody again!
Mmmmmmmm... I think that Pomontory sounds like "peñón". At least that it's the name I would give it. Maybe Astrologix can confirm it.
