need an easy way to delete many .sav files Get a bigger avatar today!

My civ .sav files are starting to get out of hand again. In windows, I have been deleting them one, by one, and this takes some time. Is there some way to select all the files you want to delete, and then delete them all at once?

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Simply open the folder with the savegames, leftclick in a free area near the first savegame, hold the left mousekey, and move the mouse around to activate the savegames you want to delete. Then you can delete all activated files.

Or hold the Shift key, leftclick on a file, then on a second file. With holde Shift key, ALL(!) files between the first and the last clicked appear as selected and can be deleted in one turn.

There are some more ways, but these should work...

My vwrsion of windows explorer file manager works similar to that above with one slight difference from the wnd method.
left clikc on the first file WITHOUT the shift, left click on the last file WITH shift-hold, and the two files and all inbetween will be selected.

Remove this text

And you can select/deselect individual files by Ctrl-Clicking on them.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Also, if you have set the view to details you can click on the filetype column and files will be sorted by their extensions, so all the sav files will be together. Just click on the first sav, hold shift and click on the last sav. All your sav files are now selected and you can delete them.

I use the same approach as Paul of sorting the files by their extension. I also try to keep at least a handful of saves from each game, typically the saves from 4000 bc, 1000 bc, 1 ad, 1000 ad, 1500 ad, 1750 ad, 1850 ad - as well as the last two saved turns of the games.

I keep those for future reference and comparison purposes, and I just delete the files in between using the Ctrl key and the left mouse button as described above.

In addition, it's really helpful in cases of future reference if you use some kind of standardized way of naming the save files. I've recently taken up customizing the name of the leader of my civ alphabetically from game to game, ie. Absalon, Acidophilus , Adonis and so on. Now my saves are neatly arranged in the folder in ascending date order. Brilliant, if I may say so myself.

Geez guys, doesn't anyone know how to work with a command line interface (Dos) anymore!

It's much simpler to open a dos box, go to the directory with your savefiles and type:

del *.sav

And just repeat that for other directories you've got saves in.

Damn kids, don't even know how to delete files with the same extension anymore...mumble mumble....

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I disagree Captvk.

The marquee in windows explorer is just as fast. Just as simple.

not that such a silly thing is worth arguing about.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I agree with you to some degree CapTVK... Sometimes I set up dos window shortcuts directly to often used folders. Then I can use all the great dos commands that I've drilled into my brain over the years. I also have a ton of the keyboard shortcuts stuck in my head so that I don't have to chase down the mouse any more when I want to do any editing, copying, pasting, etc. when in a window's app.

Then again, I also agree that it isn't worth arguing over, just different views from different eras. (Just like the fact that all new music really stinks these days! )

The biggest problem with del *.sav is of course that you might want to keep some of your saves. The only thing I use the dos-prompt for is mass-renaming of files.
