Since it is the weekend, we may get the save back more quickly than normal - so post your thoughts and orders here.
Unit Orders:
Visigoth Slaves (oliverfa) - Building Road
Madrid Spearman - E (returning to Madrid)
TEG (Togas) - E
Magyar Warriors (pikesfan) - NE
Madrid Expedition (Crousto) - S
Pamplona Warrior - S
Bulgar Warrior - E
Togas - will we be taking volunteers for unit commanders of these two latest units? Or perhaps just whichever one is to be used for the goodie hut and exploration?

Here are two options for the Goodie Hut:
1) The Bulgar warriors head directly for it - popping it in 2 turns. In this scenario, we would either have to use an entertainer in Pamplona until the Bulgars arrive, or perhaps divert the Pamplona warriors to be garrison unit.
2) Send the Bulgars back to Pamplona as planned. Send the Pamplona Warriors to the hut - popping it in 3 turns. In this scenario, we would be leaving behind some unexplored valley, and I would suggest TEG be moved E this turn to compensate.
I would prefer 2), and the Pamplona warriors have a much greater chance to survive a barbarian attack, should the hut release some, and may become a veteran.
Thoughts?

When is Pamplona going to produce settlers?
I prefer option #2 so we don't waste the Madrid settler and we can get a city near the horses or the silk.

It is very important to keep the growth rythm of Pamplona. The sooner our population grows the better, because it will help us have an edge over the other civs or at least don't lose the race. To have an entertainer in Pamplona even just for one turn is a luxury we cannot permit ourselves to have. So, I recommend 2.

From our Lord Togas in the 2630BC thread...
quote: Pamplona grows in 3 turns and the warriors are 3 moves away, which was a slip up on my part. We may want to delay the growth of Pamplona 1 turn by micromanaging the workers the next two turns. |
Actually, I miscalculated that the irrigation would not take effect until next turn , but Señor Dejon is right. I ran through a scenario to check, and the timing for the Bulgar Warriors still does prevent civil disorder
From Señor Dejon in the 2630BC thread...
quote: Now that the first cow is irrigated, switching the workers to the irrigated cow and gold mountain changes Pamplona's growth to 8 turns away, and would give us Writing in 13 turns. |
Thank you for keeping me informed, Señor Dejon. As I said before, I would only want to consider doing it when the city becomes size 3, but I would like to know if anyone is concerned about the research rate enough to slow Pamplona a little. Obviously, it still knocks 6 turns (if we are at 19 turns now ) off the time horizon for the discovery of Writing... which is a plus, but how does it weigh in against other priorities? It would subtract 1 food and 1 shield from Pamplona's production.
From Senor Pikesfan Point...
quote: When is Pamplona going to produce settlers? |
The next queue for Pamplona is to be settlers, and if we go the root of utilizing the forest tile instead of Gold Mountain, they would be ready to go in the year 2150 BC (unescorted, I presume ).

Let' go Option 2. Move the Bulgers back E, E, N.
Move the Pamplona group SW towards the Goodie Hut.
Move TEG SE to clear out a bit more black, then we move back towards that new range on the coast.
Also, I am leaving shortly for another round of NFL playoffs, and then Poker Night at my brother's pad. If the save comes in this afternoon Dejon has my permission to handle it. I'll check online from my brother's place between games to see if there's any issues.

Okay, noted. Have a good time.
Just in case you didn't realize - moving TEG SE will leave one (annoying) dark spot in the valley. Moving E will uncover it. While we can determine the terrain of the spot, we wouldn't be able to see it held a precious resource or hut.

2590 BC Report
TEG - E - uncovered heart of valley
Madrid Expedition - S - nothing exciting
Bulgars - E (toward Pamplona)
Pamplona Warrios - S (towards Hut)
AND ...
Magyars - NE - uncovered ANOTHER GOODIE HUT!
We'll uncover both in 2 turns!
