Let's get some conversation going on here. Who's voting for who? Why? What did I do so right to make this election this close?
Btw, for all who have not voted: Shiber advocates an agressive policy stance, while I go for "olive branch diplomacy". |
Regardless of what Thud says, I am not 'aggressive'. I do intend to charge full price from the rest of the civs for the techs and luxuries that we'll sell them. I do not intend to humiliate the other civs, should the public decide not to go for a diplomatic victory (while you seem rather bent on it, I leave our options open). I do intend to work with the SMC to gain monopoly over as many luxuries as possible, so that in the event that the senate will decide to go to war against a certain civ, we will be able to bring down their government and prepare the grounds for our attack.
However, in case that the senate decides to win the game diplomatically, I have a solid plan in mind on how we can achieve that. Firstly, I will order our envoys to offer our techs, luxuries or resources to the AI civs that are least fond of us for rediculous prices. Second, I will sign MPPs, RoPs and trade deals with the AI civs immediately before the UN voting.
I believe that we don't have to be wussy to win diplomatically, just calculated, and that is what I intend to do should the senate choose the diplomatic victory option.
As for your self-described 'olive branch diplomacy', I'd like to hear more about it.

Thud, running against you was probably the greatest challenge I could have expected when I announced my candidancy to the position of FAM. I must say that you gave an admirable fight!
I'm looking forward to a successful term, and should I run for a government job next term as well, I will look forward to working alongside you (I certainly wouldn't like to run against you again! I barely pulled off this one... whew)
My thanks and ever-lasting appreciation go out to everyone who supported me throughout the race, as well as to those who presented challenging counter-arguments, and thus have made the race much more interesting! Nowadays, we are short of devoted players due to PTW/multisite-DG drainage, so every vote, every voice and every post counts! (pun intended)
Once again, thank you all. May we march forward, together, to a better future! (kitsch not intended)

At the moment I don't suppose I'll need a deputy, but should I find that I do need help, Thud would certainly be the first one I'll ask to be my deputy.
