I hope all is well.

I have returned for a brief visit. There is an issue that has brought me back. I received an email from MarkG. He outlined some details from his logs from Dec 1 regarding the IRC server.

It seems that Shiber's experiments with channels did not go entirely unnoticed. Events were strange enough for members of Lego to petition Mark to investigate breaches of IRC channels.

Mark did so, but being busy, he did not contact me for a long while. He recently asked me to look into the situation of impersonations on Dec 1. I was able to answer immediately to him and Lego to the effect that Shiber had been totally open with us about IRC security, and that we as a team had decided that such espionage should not be practiced. I mentioned Shiber's statements that he would stop.

Lego and MarkG seem satisfied at this point. It is a potentially serious issue though, so I thought I should report it. I have been successsful in refocusing my attention on other matters important to me, however I feel that I can well afford this small distraction. In fact, I have peeked a bit and probably still will.

Re: security experiments from Shiber: maybe it would be best if Shiber described exactly what he did, and what made us decide IRC was not the most secure communication...

I got into their channel and impersonated Nimitz, but that was before I realized that espionage is forbidden and that we've signed a pledge against it.
IMHO, the fact that I didn't hide my identify from the server, even though that would have been fairly easy, and only masked my identity before the members of Legoland; the fact that I left the channel as soon as I was informed of the pledge, and before any confidential information was revealed; and the fact that I helped Eli of Vox Controli to secure and test their own IRC channel the next day shows that I had no malicious intent.
I have explained all these events to NYE, with respect to the server log entries that MarkG quoted, and as I understand, he explained it to MarkG, which was convinced of my innocence, as I expected.
I'm glad that this case is over, and that I didn't get my entire team into trouble. I wish to thank NYE for representing me so well before the administrators.

Shiber, thanks for the explanation, but I tought it would be nice if you described it to the legos, not to us

I know nye did it, but just out of politeness, it may be good if you send them a little message saying you were unaware of the rule at that time.

I don't think you will have damaged the team reputation, but it may be interesting to note that the legos have not yet agreed to a minimap deal, when they have done it with other teams without much problem. Maybe this is part of the reason...

As if you didn't know, but Vox is an irritating team to deal with, I feel sorry for Nbarclay that he has to put up with them, but he is doing a great job of cutting through their bullshit-for example, they naming of their land claims, took what, two weeks to determine exactly what that was? jesus.

phew, let's see.

-Vox stopped our exploration by holding on a 1 tile isthmus.
-They continued to travel south
-we came (rather) close to 'conflict'
-we traded minimaps with all but Vox and Lux (Vox knew most of our territory anyway, so it was better to sell it ourselves than to let Vox do it for us.)
-Trade deal with Vox(Wheel+alphabet<-->bronze+iron working)
-expecting Vox to mount a rush (soon?)

Did I miss anything?
