NEWS FLASH!!! Soren Johnson is not a GS team member Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Take a look at their members list. This is not in the spirit of the game anymore; this is war.

I'm gonna enjoy crushing them now

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

This is interesting news.

For the sake of Glory, we must be the team to conquer them!

What better accomplishment can we have then to beat a developer?

This is old news, IIRC he was in this list even before the game started. Now maybe he's just there for the hype and doesn't post a single message in the GS forum

I hadn't seen him while browsing through their members the other day, and they just added someone new.

Anyway, whenever he joined, we need to start lobbying Sid Meier as a member. Tell him he can have the chamberpot cleaner job... whatever he wants

When he appeared on the list, it was said that he will not participate in the game, just listen to what the gamers were saying. It seems that a game with only humans was totally new for him.

If I remember correctly he stated he wanted to watch the human team thought process to find ways to improve the game's AI.

well judging from the C3DG, all teams will be at their most efficient... and ignoring the possibility of wrong guesses on enemy strategy, we will all be doing the most planning and scheming possible.

the perfect AI building environment, if you can make the AI that smart.

"that smart" meaning GS? With the start position they are in maybe we could get Soren to defect to a team that won't be limping around the whole game due to a bad start and wary opponents

The ringers on that team have people more worried than the in-your-face stated purpose of GoW.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Well Soren can observe the whole game. But what AI needs more help than the one with the bad start?

And he can observe our actions and others actions on the whole as well.

Well, I don't think this has been discussed, but what happens to the players of a team that is defeated? If say, we took GS out of play, do all (or most) of their players join Roleplay? Do we get to pick & choose whom joins us? Whould the rest who don't join, be "executed"? Could we trust them?

Just thinking ahead.

Soren joined before the game actually started. I remember this from when for some reason or other I had access to all the private forums.

Well I was going to join LI for a bit, but then the Spaniards were chosen.

Thanks dejon - I never went anywhere, just got totally taken off guard by the very large amount of RP here (more than I expected) until I felt that I couldn't really keep up and stopped posting.

Yes, we were having quite a bit of fun in the game lead up and the first 1000 years or so. (There was nothing else to do!) But now the newness seems to have worn off a bit - the Marketplace and Tavern are slow, and we're falling into the pace of the game.

Please don't stay away again! Roleplaying is certainly fun and engaging, but we'll need the experience, analysis and leadership of Civ veterans like yourself to win!

(roadcage - I hope you're reading this, because it goes for you too!)

I think Lord Togas would agree that everyone is welcome to roleplay as much or as little as they like - just participate. We will have three cities in a few turns, and can expect to have double that before long - which means many more roles to serve in, choice analysis, and planning.

Go Spain!

Cheers guys, I'm a little surprised I'm still remembered after all that has gone on here. I hope to be able to post a lot more come mid Feb (home to NZ!!!), and to be as active as possible in all the Demo games I have before.

I don't know about Civ3 veteran there, dejon; I'm more of a Demo game veteran. Nevertheless, I like to believe that some of the real veterans' work in the SP Demo game has rubbed off on me.

Back on topic, we don't need to worry about Soren. He expressed a desire to be able to watch (hence joining the team), but to take a very backseat approach. Furthermore, we have little to fear from him anyway. He may have been heavily involved in making the game and thus knows what will happen when you do this or this etc, but he will not have had the opportunity to test his mettle on it that we have. He may know the AI inside-out and backwards, but when it comes to the RP team, we are not quite so predictable.
