Tass,
Switch to Ultra-Light Style (no banners)
(Switch from IE to Opera and enable pop-up blocking if the pop-ups are bothering you, or download an external pop-up killer if you must.)

First of all, I will say this: If Tass' son has some kind of problems with this ad, then by all means remove it. Noone should have to experience personal problems from seeing and ad at 'poly. But ultimately, this is Markos' decision.
But I will also add this: It never ceases to amaze me how sexfrightened some people are. Even the slightest hint of bare skin, or even the merest mention of anything remotely related to sex, and people go all nuts and crazy. Sorry but I just don't get it. Day in and day out the news are full of people who are killed, maimed or otherwise touched by one of the countless conflicts that are in existance all over the world. But this behavior is accepted with nothing more then a shrug, and maybe slight anger if the situation touches one self.
The situation is the same in movies. Violence is all to accepted in movies today. In most parts of the world it is okay for children to witness people killing eachother, but only 1 (one!!) bare breast and the movies get slapped with a PG rating
I'll say this: It is my firm conviction that violence has killed a lot more people than sex. And no: I do not believe that the ad in question is pornography.
To Tass, I'll say this: It would make me a very happy man, if you answered this post with something akin to: "I pose the same restrictions on my son with regards to violence, as with regards to sex."
But knowing the world as it is, you probably don't do that.
Then again, I know neither you nor your son, so perhaps....

Argh! Now its a "Lets insult tass because he believes that if his son becomes closed with an ad and begins obsessing about its problem an ad should be taken down"?!?!?!?!
quote: Mayby the other way around is true, people who find this ad offensive are probably the ones with a sick mind. |
Ok then, I have a sick mind. Wanting to help my children is SUCH a crime....
quote: Better watch out for those Victoria's Secret ad's on the major Networks then. |
Yes I do. An immediate change of channel follows such an ad if my son is in the room.
quote: If he is truely being serious, he shouldn't allow the internet into his home, |
Why not? The internet is possibly the EASIEST thing to censor for this type of thing.
quote: and should get rid of any TV's in his house, |
But why? Again, such channels aren't allowed and if a commercial comes up while he is in the room, the channel changes. Its just that simple.
quote: and never allow his son outside, |
Utah is quite tame for these type of things, but there are some places even here and it will be his responsibility to steer clear of those things. However coming into my room shouldn't be something he should feel the need to steer clear of (Or if he doesnt have the strength, immediately come into).
quote: it would be easier to respect someone's dislikes, if they were presented in a more logical way |
Ok, looking after your son is illogical however I'm still going to do it and dont you dare ask me not to. THAT would be illogical indeed.
quote: Well it's not evil |
ANYTHING that harms my children is evil.
Ok, lets look at the defintion of porn. I searched it up, but it said look at pornography. Here it is:
quote: por·nog·ra·phy ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pôr-ngr-f)
n.
Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal. |
Ok, well I highly doubt this is just a casual ad. In fact, considering there is no WATER, there is no BEACH, and in fact the woman is in a....well, position AND "The perfect gift for her" is a teddy bear, this definately fits that defintion.
So yes, it is porn.
quote: you know, i would remove it instantly if i had an explanation on why this complaint comes after all this time |
Here you go: When the ad started I disliked it however I can tolerate it. However as of late its been coming up a bit more and my son has become involved in it. At first I thought it was just going to be one time and he would never see such things again (he was past it, i thought). But then I gained rational thought, and decided to do this.
quote: To Tass, I'll say this: It would make me a very happy man, if you answered this post with something akin to: "I pose the same restrictions on my son with regards to violence, as with regards to sex." |
Your right, I dont do that and heres why:
My son can tolerate violence. He has the ability and maturity to tolerate most levels of violence. There are some I dont think hes fit for yet, but in time he will be.
However right now hes not fit for this type of sexuality. That much is quite apparent. As per his psychologists recommendation, I am trying to introduce him to these things a bit more slowly, HOWEVER...This does not quite fit into my plan.
So in essence, I'll show him "socially" acceptable levels of violence because I know he can tolerate it. However I wont show him what I suppose is "socially" accepted levels of sexuality because he CANT handle it yet.
quote: please tell me you or your son havent seen "worse"... well... everywhere.... |
Ok: We haven't seen worse, well, everywhere.
quote: Walk down the beach anytime anywhere and you see a lot more than on that tiny ad |
Except its in a beach setting. Now hes reaching puberty, of course hes going to look at the women there. BUT their not going out of their way to cause the type of sexual arousal that comes with the ad. (Well...most of them at least. But we dont go to such beaches )
quote: By almost any definition of pornography, that's not porn |
Try again.
My god, I feel like I'm being ganged up because I don't give in to American SEX CULTURE.

Yes...I suspect that has something to do with what you Mewicans consider culture. But thats not the issue.
It IS pornography if you go with the definition of it. It causes my son to feel uncomfortable. Therefore I want it removed.

Hey hey, all the vast majority have done here is disagree with you on a hugely subjective moral standard........that shouldn't be so disturbing to you. |
Because I'm drained of energy, i'll just say one cliche:
Come on, do it for the children!
