PTW Editor Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Hey everyone: I have a question about the Map Editor. Ok, I wanted to set up a scenario starting in the middle ages. Everything came out fine until i noticed that all my science research took 40 turns. No matter how much cash i took in or took out (to the bare minimum of course) nothing changes. It's still 40. I KNOW this can be fixed because there is a scenario i found called dinobarbs in the scenario folder which starts in the middle ages and scientic research is normal. I looked all over the rules for it and after hours and hours of testing i couldn't find what the heck it was that i wasn't doing right. One other thing.. all the other scenarios in the folder that started after the ancient times had the EXACT same problem i came across. Does anyone know how to fix this??
Thanx

Increase the size of your Attachments

Well, the most likely cause is that you have no research coming in. If your scenario starts with a settler and a worker only, this is almost definitley the reason. A new city in the Middle Age still produces a pittance of research dollars until it gets roaded and a library (and optionally, you switch to a Republic). If you look at Dinobarbs closely (and I have, as I fixed it to work with PTW) you'll notice that the start cities each have a developed road network, a library, and a population of 7. This is where the research comes from.

How many Civs have I have in a scenario? Not how many at ONCE, how many total... i.e., I'm not really that interested in creating a scenario with more than 16 civs in one game, but I want to be able to choose from a "pool" of around 40! Is this possible?

You can have up to 24 civs in a scenario. From that I think (not sure, I'm at work still) that when you launch the game and get to the screen for chosing your civ, you can set some of the enemy choices to "none" instead of random.

Natural Resource appearance ratio question Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Does anyone know what the formula used in the "appearance ratio" is?

The helpfile is useless on this point. It gives one example which is not entirely accurate when tested. They say a rate of 160 with 8 civs = 2 per Civ (or 32); however; I've tested those numbers a 1/2 dozen times on a 100x100 regular map and I get over 4 per Civ (or 67) every time!

On a 100x100 (regular) map I get the following:

Ratio #ofCivs Num of Resources
100 5 5
100 10 10
100 15 15
450 5 22
450 10 45
450 15 67
900 5 45
900 10 67
900 15 67

It looks like:
Ratio/10 * #ofCivs = NumofResources
with a minimum of 2 until you reach a limit of 67

I don't understand the 67 thing.
63 would be logical (3Fhex or 01111111bin)
Any Ideas?

In PTW, you can have 31 Civs in a scenario (although it only comes with 24). You can do the pick 8 out of 31 thing.

Good question. You should have made this its own thread.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for a Civ MultiTool utility that works with PTW?

I downloaded the one by Graphmos, and it was impressive, but I prefer to work with PTW... in fact, I gave away my old CivIII (regular) disk...

I WANT TO MAKE SOME SCENARIOS, DAMMIT!

You mean you "stored you CivIII disks in a safe place". If you gave it away (to be installed on another computer), it would be a violation of the copyright as PTW requires that you have a licensed copy of CivIII.

Um, yes, exactly, I "gave it away" to a responsible person who I knew would NEVER use it in a million years.

That doesn't answer my question though... is there a better editor than the one that comes with PTW to make PTW scenarios with?
