Video Games Exhibition (Scotland) Tired of ads?

A blatant plug but much to my surprise I really enjoyed the history of vid games display at the Museum of Scotland (or was it the other one? they merge together) in Chambers Street, Edinburgh
I was expecting a boring history of... but its basically loads of consoles, computers and arcade machines which you get to play. Never mind the xbox when you can play the original pong, track and field or even the hitch hikers guide (babel fish solutions on a postcard pls).
Probably most fun if you use to hang out in arcades in the 80s or owned an Amiga/Spectrum/Atari 800.
Runs till mid Feb.

Got spare money?

If you have any information on where the exhibition is going after Edinburgh please let us know. The opportunity to prove that I have lost all my skill at Manic Miner and Phoenix would be too good to miss

I actually liked some of the actual exhibits, such as level design post-it notes for GTA3, and concept art from the final fantasy series.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

When I was in Edinburgh earlier this year, I went to the museum where the exhibition was setup. I'm not sure but is it the National (scottish) museum? not sure..

Anyway I thought it was kinda odd that there was nearly nobody in the (FREE!!!) museum, and the Gameon exhibition was packed with little annoying kids i could hear scream throughout the entire museum!!

I suppose you liked the exhibition simply because you could play free games etc... blah I had a look at it from above, and it didn't seem to me like there was much information about gaming except concept art and consoles

Nah, forget all that I'm just a "culture" man and I hate to see museums empty while everybody pays for their upkeep etc, and instead ppl massively go to gaming exhibitions

E3 etc are cool though, because there you get to see previews of games and stuff, on l33t computers

Put an end to popups!

w00t did i say there? not E3 unfortunately, that's in America and quite a long way for me to go

I meant ECTS in great britain , a few years ago, when it was still something decent, nowadays it's not that special anymore. Anyway in order to get such a press card you need to know a real reporter of course so you gotta be lucky!

ECTS is still probably the biggest event in the UK even if there seems to be less commitment from some of the big players. I also go with a press invite (and occasionally a camera crew) which seems to make everyone much more cooperative !

I liked the exhibition because
a) i got to play loads of old games from my teenage years but also...

b) i think anything that gets people into the musuems is a good thing and also that the curators are recognising that there's more to exhibitions than old items locked away in glass cabinets which is essentially is what a lot of the rest of the museum is.

The Museum of Scotland when it opened was suppose to be different and more relevant to Scotland but i was hard pressed to tell it apart from from its older counterpart.
