Bye Bye Cars... Got spare money?

The Federation of Redfern has been forced to declare all private automobiles illegal. The Federation is one fifth the size of England, yet has a population of 92 million. The cities are in permanent gridlock and all other regulations have so far failed.

This will come reality by tommorow, with all citizens given access to free public transport.

*waits to be flamed like Ubinia for banning meat *

it makes you a nut, that's for sure.

Zoran protests the nation of redfern's action to ban an integral part of their society. All that will come of this is upheaval

If the people of Federation of Redfern wish to live in the stone age and in poverty, why not let them?
This is a stupid idea. Banning cars is not the solution. First would try to get people to use public transit and car pool. And if you are worried about polution their are technologies avaible such as fuel cells and sollar power and hybri cars.

Nope, we're worried about traffic and the fact that there are traffic jams permanently running right accross the city. Redfern is as densely populated as Manhatten Island, but over a larger area. There have so far been no problems with the new system and people are relieved they can actually move now.

Suffering from ads?

Some cities require that cars with odd numbers drive on one day and ones with even numbers drive anther day. Also have you not considered building more roads? Or improving existing roads to handle more traffic?? There are many ways to trying to solve the traffic problem with out having to ban car. What about all the factories and dealerships that will go out of business because of this new law? THis is very short sided law that will lead to economic ruin for your nation.

Why will factories go out of business? Only private cars are banned, not transport lorries and buses. Due to the sheer density of the population, demolishing one block to build a new road would involve the relocation of thousands, which is far more expensive in the long run.

Banning cars is a good idea. We don't make our own anyway, so it represents a significant drain on our foreign reserves.

There is an issue which allows you to ban cars that comes up occasionally.

seems like most of the "issues" are oversimplified and the "solutions" are frequently worse than the problems...

Of course, it doesn't matter when the friggin' site is down anyway

Admaria, when confronted with this issue for a second time, chose to ban cars, as that was apparently the least objectionable choice. However, the public transport costs have crippled our economy. Does anyone know if there is a way to reverse this decision and return to automoblie usage?

Not tuntil the issue comes up again, AFAIK. Though you could have simply chosen to dismiss the issue...

I may have dismissed this one. Or not.
I can't recall actually.

Some of the issues have no decent solutions offered though.

I dismissed it once and it came back. At the time I thought that if I chose one of the legislative actions on that issue, I'd be more likely to get new issues. It wasn't worth it, though -- that began a cycle of higher taxes and economic decline.

Since I haven't received the issue again, I was a bit concerned that once you ban cars, "that's it," and you never receive that issue again. Hopefully that won't be the case, though. An alternate solution would be to collapse the country into Anarchy, resetting all taxes to zero. My hard-won lack of crime would be destroyed in that case, though. Decisions, decisions.

I commend red_jon on his actions. Although we have not attempted such a feat ourselves, we will monitor the progress of this pioneering scheme, and see what it's effects are, and perhaps implement some of the lessons learned in East Yorkshire.
