Time marches on...

Pamplona is looking good for now. Settler should be done in 2150 BC. If settler is to head out as soon as completed, what is to be done about an escort?

Afterwards, next queue is another unit of workers.

Buenoz diaz compadre!

I think we should have to use the settler to close the possibilies of expansion into the Spanish sphere of interest...
Thus, we should expand westwards from Pamplona to draw our border where the jungle meets the fertile lands.

If you look at the map and you can see that we are be able to
"draw a line" from coast to coast. I think that's most imperative before anyone else tries to do it.

On the other hand, if we settle north of Madrid we will buffer our capital and prevent foreign ambitions in that promising valley.

BTW: My previous character,
Pedro "Peligroso" de Plãgiates has died from Malaria, caused by the TEG-expedition through the jungle.
The expedtion is still ongoing without its leader.

New character: (bios not complete)
His younger brother, Sanchez "El Niño" de Plãgíates, knows nothing of these terrible news, sitting in the hills outside Madrid waiting for his brother.

Sanchez is educated in colonization theory and foreign affairs,
now studying the growth of Spanish influence...

Madrid expedition : NE

For the Pamplona settler, it will definitely need an escort if we can't find and eradicate the source of this barbarians warning in the advisor screen.

Barcelona : build warrior ASAP. I don't like barbarians...

Maybe Madrid could help with its spearman if the situation become tragic. Stay ready, please.

Unfortunately, with the tense relations with GoW, and a GoW warrior within visual range of Madrid, the Madrid garrison is staying put.

That is why I changed the Barcelona Q to Warrior and maxed the production (5 turns) last turn, as well as directed both our Magyar and Bulgar Warriors towards Barcelona. With any luck, one of them will find and disperse the encampment before any barbarians go marauding.

Let's hope the become regulars instead of becoming dead. Depending on what terrain the barbarian encampment is on, they may have a difficult time dislodging it. They are only conscripts, afterall.

We'll work with what we've got. Perhaps once they find it, they could just stand as a buffer between the tribe and Barcelona, in case something comes out. And we wait for the regular warrior from Barcelone to be built and come disperse them. Either way, finding them is the first priority.

Togas had instructed me to build a worker in Madrid next, but it's possible that Madrid could build a military unit after that before the next settler.

We'll see what the situation is like when we get to that point.

Someone remind me ... how many dissidents does a military unit quell? Pamplona will grow in 2 turns ... do we need to bring back those Bulger warriors to keep down any potential revolts?

If we don't need him, we should move him SW towards where TEG and the Pamplona warrior division will be harrying the GoW warrior. With 3 warriors we can easily block GoW's explorations entirely once we get them all into a line formation.

TEG will stay put if GoW moves SE or S. If GoW moves E, TEG moves NE.

Pamplona will move SW

Pretty sure military units only supress one unhappy face each.

And under despotism, I'm pretty sure the military units as police limit is 2.

Could be wrong about that, but I don't think so.

Increase Your PM Length

From the scenarioes I ran, Pamplona did not riot at size 4. IIRC, I only had it garrisoned with one unit at the time. I'll take another look at it again, though.

Size 5 and 6 got a bit ugly though without a temple or luxuries. Still, I will look into it.

ruby_maser, make sure you let a full turn elapse after you are at a certain population level... PTW seems to not notify you that the population is unhappy until a turn delay. An annoying change, but it's different in PTW.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I think I must have jacked with the entertainment slider. When I tried it this time with only one spearman as a garrison, we indeed have a problem with civil disorder.

The only solution until the settler comes off the line is to move the nearest conscripts back or adjust the entertainment slider accordingly.

Financially, we could adjust the slider, hope the conscripts can find and dispense with the barbarians in the area, and still or net a profit for the gold we get from that.

OR

We can always move the nearest conscript back to Pamplona. It will still involve needing one turn with the slider at 10% entertainment.

The settler will kick Pamplona back down to size 2 in 2150 BC. It would not be very long with the slider adjusted. Another issue is: can only one of the conscripts handle the barbarians alone? We may need them both out there to remove the threat. Any thoughts?

ruby_maser,

This isn't sounding too bad.

Why not bring a wariror back and then have the same warrior escort the settler?

Move those Bulgers EAST, we'll then move them back towards Pamplona to help keep the people in line when the population becomes too much for the spearmen to handle.

Bulgars Warriors moved E

Magyar Warriors moved NE

Madrid Expedition moved NE

Average to GoW, ND

Diplomacy (GoW, Lux, ND)
We can see that only we have Mysticism.
GoW does not have Iron Working yet.

Señor Tamali and Señor Clemente joined me in the turn chat, and we discussed the WF of Pamplona and Madrid.

With the Bulgars still 2 moves away from Pamplona, we deemed it wise to stunt growth there until that time. (WF changed - 2,6,7). This way, there will be no unrest in Pamplona, a accompanying unit will be available for the settler right away, and no slider change will be necessary.

Also, the Madrid governor agreed to rush the spearman by accelerating production. (WF changed - 3,5)

Madrid: Growth in 8, Spearman in 2
Pamplona: Growth in 2, Settler in 5
Barcelona: Growth in 17, Warrior in 4
