Newbie here. Came up through the gaming ranks in the old (old, old) days -- atry Colossal Cave on a PDP 10. Addict of Civ I and II. Bought Civ III -- yech. Pretty little moving pictures but they make the game play so s-l-o-w.
Back to Civ II on my new XP screamer, and what a mess. Playing w/o the CD to disable the video helped a lot, but my games are . . . unwinnable! I conquer all the civilizations and no one seems to notice. Click the Foreign Advisor and he says "We have not yet made contact with any other civilizations." Built a spaceship, land it successfully, zilch.
Any advice?

Have you installed the latest Indeo video drivers and codecs? Also applied the latest official patch for your version of Civ 2? Here is the link for the Indeo files http://download.ligos.com/dld-produ...eo/iv5setup.exe , the official Civ 2 patch should be in the download section.
