you're pushing it
France has this very arrogant thing about the rest of the world, but is also very appreciative from many foreign things, from the 18th century where Chinese art was the rage in the royal court to today where many foreign directors have a much larger following in France than in their native country (M. Leigh, W. Allen). The one movie now doing exceeding well is a old Miyazaki (1986) that is re-shown. Paris is also where you'll find the most galleries on African Arts.
Now, that's not to excuse diplomatic blunders. But when a canadian minister says Bush is an idiot, does it mean that canadians have 'no respect for the rest of the world'?

It was no blunder, it was a setup shot at Bush.
Quite a bit of differience between callin' names and
blowin' off nukes in the south pacific and commiting
terrorist bomb attacks in New Zealand as part of
state policy.

No, no my dear Ozz. You should never mistake forums for real life.
France may be alianating the US. This is not the whole world.
Apolyton is populated by english and americans. What you see here is not representative of the world.
Just of UK and US. Two countries which have problems with France.

I'm guessing it's the same in Quebec today.
That should clear things up. |
Oddly enough, that's what my initial post was about also.
I've lived most of my life in northwestern Quebec. I'm used to the cold, the long winters etc... but i still hate it. With a passion.

Japher, the euro is stronger than the dollar.
Some years back noone in the US thought that the euro could ever exist let alone overtake the almighty dollar.
I like to think of this as a sign of potential.

_It is just another "boy's club" that no one really wants to join.
All of Europe wants to join the EU and also Turkey.

I myself hate the sloppy way it was introduced. Not that it wasn't a major thing to do and that there were major problems for such a great feat. There weren't.
But we are the generation that suffered all the speculative tricks shrewd businessmen thought of and implemented and states were incapable of controlling. (like artificial raise of prices which indeed did translate to higher inflation).

EU cannot let in a country that has no real democracy, tortures and mass killings of its population.
These taken away, the EU will think about it.
Also If Turkey joins the financial cost would be crushing not to mention that we would have common borders with Iraq Syria and others.
There is still much discussion to be done on this point.
Having said that I support the entrance of Turkey if and when it becomes democratic.

Chris the french are just protecting their interests.
It is a matter which has many parameters .
Also the Germans paid huge for the last war in the gulf, they don't want to pay again.
There are many paramteres to this as you know.

The US and UK's mistake, bailing out France...You should all be speaking German!
The US has repaid France in countless ways for the "support" given in the Revolution and for a nice statue... Like saving your butts! Yet, they still haven't paid for making Quebec! (just kidding) |
"Support": Without the French, the US might very easily not exist at all, or ina very different form.
"Countless?" 1, 2... hey, most people can count to 2! and that is if you assume the Germans were actually going to win once their spring 1918 offensive pettered out (at which point, American forces on the ground in France were minimal).
Oh, and as for the UK: They would be speaking German as well, but were saved (as they have, countless times) by 24 miles of water. Life is easier with a Moat, isn't it? After all, most times someone got through, they won....
The US saved France in 1945, and since then, Americans haven't been able to figure out why the French don't go around kissing their asses every day, which is why Americans hate the French so...It galls americans to have anyone both think they are better than us, and tell it to our faces (after all, US #1 and all that crap)
