US wants to control the region.
France has serious interests in it.

For what is worth there is no danger to american citizens from Iraq.

The inspectors are a smoke screen, a play of actors to define the outcome.

If they find "no weapons of mass destruction", and war doesnt happen US loses its efforts to control the region.

If they do, or dont, or the UN approves or doesnt but a war happens, US wins in trying to control that region and its oil.


Thats the game and thats the prize.

It is sad that people will be killed over it. Both americans for the ambitions of their gov and what IT thinks are its best interests as well as the iraquis civilians which are inocent in each and every case.

Yup! A smoke screen demanded by the French to buy more time to try and convince the US not to attack so that they can continue to secure their own interests. Such interests which can be also secured through support of the US.

Do the French honestly like the Iraqis' more than Americans? If so then the US will attack regardless and the French, along with the rest of the EU will be left high and dry as sympathizers against our interests.

Pretty awful if you ask me, but that is how I see it.

France and Europe in general alrady have good deals on oil with Iraq. These are the serious interests.
To Turkey Iraq is the 2nd largest trade partner.
Even to Greece a war with Iraq would flood it with immigrants again.
