I went up and posted this, assuming each of you want to play. I also assumed we still want the same settings. I'm inclined to change the amount of water coverage to make the game faster and more furious. We can also change civs at this time, although I have no problem sticking with the Americans.

quote: BRC, if you're making the map, could we make sure the game is on Emperor before we start? Setting the difficulty in the editor was a great idea, but it doesn't seem to work for research rate. |
No problem. Can you tell me what you had to do in order to keep it at Emperor??

Expansionist civs have enough of an advantage on Pangea maps that decreasing the land mass should be only fair.
The fact that setting the difficulty level for a player does not set the same level with respect to research is a definite bug.
My new civ choices are: Zulus, Aztecs, Iroquois (non-Industrious!).

I assume Arabia is preferred.
Initial post updated. Once jshelr chimes in, BRC will be able to finish the setup, and we can get going (again)!

Thousands of years ago, four civilizations were placed on Earth with the hope that they would populate the land. At first, everything seemed to go well. One civilization, the Americans, stayed out of foreign affairs. However, greed slowly crept in to each of the leaders' hearts. The Egyptians formed an alliance with the Iroqouis, to destroy the already crippled French. The French countered the evil alliance by burning an Egyptian city named Arrian Deception. That city, which had been named after one of the great Gods who watched over them, had been a source of strength for the Egyptians. The people, angered by this brutal act, began the call for their War Chariots.
At this moment, Firaxis looked down on the world. What had he done?? These people were supposed to populate the earth, not destroy it.
"Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow."
Firaxis awoke with a fresh feeling.
"Maybe I chose the wrong people."
But then he realized, the Americans had been nice, and the Egyptians really hadn't done anything serious.
"I'll give those two another chance."
So, the Americans, Egyptians, Arabs, and Zulus were stuck on a new world, with the hope that these civs would not destroy each other. In fact, Firaxis gifted each civ a head of cattle, to encourage a peaceful world.
Bad Story. GAME ON. Save sent to Alex.

Alex: Yes, I made sure that I was generating the map with the correct settings. I did have to add a little land though, to make things fair.
