1) The balanced budget amendment,

2) Term limitations,

3) No judicial activism - the Rehnquist court has overturned more acts of Congress than any other,

4) No nation building,

5) Law & order - a slap on the wrist for Microsoft's monopoly and still no Enron prosecutions,

6) Decentralized government, with power being redistributed back to the various states.

As politicians will tend to do, when a member of their party is President, they'll try to maintain party cohesion and not "rock the boat" for fear it might make them look bad come the next elections. Hell, even the Democrats are largely guilty of this, though a few politicians on both sides are breaking ranks. In any case: Integrity and campaign promises be damned, there's a war being fought! Either you're with them or you're with the terrorists.

I thought judicial activism was about re-writing the Constitution, not overturning Congressional actions that violate the Constitution. If it's the latter, we need more judicial activism since virtually everything Congress does violates the Constitution.

They were never serious about this, especially since it first showed up under Reagan, who never once proposed a balanced budget in his 8 years in office. Ronnie asking for a balanced budget amendment was a lot like the psycho in a slasher film begging the cops to "stop me before I kill again."

Oh I read very well. After Microsoft was convicted by the U.S. Justice Department under the control fo the Democrats, and after Microsoft donated about $500,000 to the Bush campaign, the U.S. Justice Department under the control of the Bush administration settled the action by having Microsoft give a dab of their propietary software to competitors. Clinton tried hard to get national health care passed. However, the combination of fierce Republican opposition plus a nationwide campaign of disinformation by the "health" lobby caused his proposal to fall a few vote short in the Congress

...But you could have. Limits on campaign contributions and spending could have shifted the focus of collecting money from the big contributors (billionaires, corporations, unions and PACs) to small contributors (the middle class). Instead, the shift has been in the other direction.

Ha! I love it when Republicans say crap like "Lincoln was a Republican..." the name aside, Lincoln was a political moderate who did not like corporations, trusts, and capitalists. Republicans as we know them today came about after WW2. Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican; and today if he were around, he'd be labeled a "socialist" for the reforms he wanted. It's just a matter of using a name to fool ignorant voters. "We're the party of Lincoln"... bullsh1t... if Lincoln were alive today, he'd be a Democrat.
