Nomination thread for 2nd term government Got spare money?

The "Magna Chartaginia" is ready and almost ratified, so it's time to move ahead and elect our 2nd term government, the first legal one!

This is the thread for nominating people for ministerial positions. Current ministers will be automatically nominated if don't step down.

----------

NOMINATIONS

President
- Vondrack

Note: the current President, Jack, is stepping down so he's not a candidate

Master Builder
- ZargonX (in office)

Foreign Advisor
- Redstar

Note: the current FA, Vondrack, is running for Presidency, so he's not a candidate

The Enlightened
- Spiffor (in office)

Military Architect
- Tiberius

Note: the current MA, Redstar, is running for FA, so he's not a candidate

----------

I will update this first post with the most current nominations. People will be added to this list after they officially accept the nomination.

I took as granted the nominations proposed earlier in other thraeds, like Vondrack for Presidency and Redstar for FA.

I hope nobody's against this.

Tibi for Military Architect Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Well, keeping the spirit of posting in (almost) all our threads (the post count thing, ya know... Emperor is going to need some serious effort... ). I would like to post something here, too... well... ok, I hereby accept my nomination for the President... wait, I said that before, that would bee too cheap... hm... ok, I know what!

Just kidding... I am very serious about that I want to nominate Tiberius for the Military Architect! Over the two months of the game, he has proved himself to be very active in discussing movement of our units and often contributed by suggesting improvements over my proposals and correcting my mistakes. This is not to say that there would not be others participating, but as I can nominate just one candidate (or may I nominate more than one?), it will be Tiberius.

EDIT: if I am allowed to nominate more than one candidate and if Sharpe is willing to run for the office, I would like to see him run against Tiberius... these two guys would both be good MAs, I believe.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I think you can nominate as many candidates as you want.

I accept the nomination

I promise to be a good MA, taking as an example the MA from Civ2, when he says:
"All is good Sire! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...", even though I don't promise to be always drunk. Hmm, maybe sometimes, when the situation requires it.

Hmm, actually I was thinking that you want to nominate somebody for some other position. This way, that you nominate 2 persons for the same position, it is quite strange. I don't have anything against Sharpe and I hope somebody else will nominate him, but I think we shouldn't accept 2 nominations for the same position from the same person.

Sorry for mixing things up for you, Tibi. I just want that we have more than one candidate for every position (including the President), so that we really hold elections and not just an acclamation. If there is just one candidate for a given post, then we do not need to (and shall not) hold elections for that post at all, as it is virtually impossible to "not elect" that one candidate (as we would have nobody to serve in the office).

Actually Tiberius would be an excellent choice for Military Architect !

(Sharpe's chief election adviser glares angrily at him - Sharpe wonders what mistake he made this time - oops! he was nominated to run against Tiberius and he just indicated that he was voting for him - doh!)

Seriously, with me now being completely blind to Apolyton at work (I can only read the Lego and Apolyton threads from 7-12pm eastern at most), I would be a handicap as any minister.

Perhaps I would be best in pitching in to help as a deputy if anyone is overwhelmed, but even then with my limited access to Apolyton ... maybe not...

Hopefully, I should be able to run (and gracefully lose ) for ministerial positions once the turns lengthen closer to 24 hours each team, but we are still playing a Legoland turn every day or two.

By the way, I would like to apologize if my behaviour has been occasionally rude the last little while - frustrations in real-life had really gotten under my skin!

I agree to be Enlightened again, as it doesn't require too much time. I currently have much trouble to access the saves (because of my gf, I am barely at home, and my internet access comes most often from a computer without Civ), so anyone more available can do the job better than me in this juncture.

Spiffor, you were a great Enlightened and I would like to have you again in this position About your limited time, having a GF is actually the best aliby to not participating in Lego's life very actively Try to send her shopping or something just kidding

Tiberius,

No, I don't think that I should run - though I do appreciate you (and Vondrack) nominating me. Besides, wouldn't it be kind of ridiculous if your opponent didn't vote for himself LOL.

Spiffor has been a very good Enlightened so far (even if I don't necessarily agree about the avoidance of the strategic resource techs ).

The truth is that we seem to be doing well so far (knock on wood or in this case plastic keyboard) so unless people are running out of time or want a change, I suspect that few changes will be made or even should be made. Jack has clearly been busy and while we do appreciate his work as President, his decision to step away from that is probably wise.

Tired of ads?

Hmm, I don't think that we should automatically nominate the existing ministers as there is a possibility that they have become inactive or could become inactive either temporarily or permanently.

So has everyone on the list accepted nominations for those posts?

Thank you, Jack, I appreciate that a lot. I am really glad there are no hard feelings, even though I was a little bit harsh on you on occasions... I very well know what it means to be busy and short of time - it is just very few years ago that I had to work like 18 hours a day and I was still not able to catch up on things...

What are we going to do about our ambassadors?

Here is the current list:

Ambassador to Gathering Storm: quantum_mechani
Ambassador to Neu Demogyptica: Colonel Kraken
Ambassador to Glory of War: ZargonX
Ambassador to Roleplayers: Nimitz
Ambassador to Vox Controli: Odin
Ambassador to Lux Invicta: lmtoops

From our six ambassadors, only 3 are active (ZargonX, Nimitz, lmtoops). It is true that we haven't met any civs yet, but in a few (~20?) turns we are going to build our first galleys and we may need them shortly after that.

AFAIK Jack has sent a message to the inactive members, so we should wait for an aswer first, but in max. 2 weeks we will need to replace them if they don't come back.

Anybody willing to take over an ambassadorial position ?

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nimitz for fulfilling his ambassadorial duties in an extraordinarily great way. I just wish we had more of such devoted ambassadors. Even if you do not see Nimitz posting often, he is bringing invaluable information from RPers all the time in!

A definate for Nimitz's abmassadorial triumphs! I shall try to learn from his fine example in dealing with the GoW. Speaking of which, we never quite decided whether we wanted to go ahead and try and arrange for some of their guarnateed trades. Would you like me to contact them and find out if that offer is still on the table, or do we not want to deal with them due to their show of dishonesty in regards to the Neu Demogyptica affair?

I would not pursue the guaranteed trade scheme for now. Not that I would mind what GoW do... dishonesty may be too strong a word for their strategy... it's often difficult to tell where cunning diplomacy ends and dishonesty begins... basically, I believe that if it works, it is fine. If it doesn't, it's not...

But currently, I can see very little we could gain... we have no idea how long it will take to make contact with GoW. We seriously consider going for the Great Library, too. Even though I believe that once we meet them, they will be willing to trade quite a lot with us, I would wait and see what we can do at that time. I am quite sure we will have the upper hand in the eventual bargaining.

As for ambassadors... I believe it will be best to wait until we make a contact and make it an issue only then. Even though I admire how actively Nimitz takes care of our relations with RPers, I don't expect everybody doing the same (also because RPers seem to be the only ones willing to cooperate that closely). Once we really need an ambassador to a certain team, we shall handle the situation appropriately, either "activating" the currently designed ambassador one or replacing him by whoever will be free/willing to take care of the negotiations at that time.

We don't need mulitple canidates for each position. First of all, we are so small that it's not practicle. Also the top positions require much more time and not every active player is willing to make the time committment.

I know that I cannot make the time committment at this time.

The nomination phase is almost over and the voting phase should begin today at 12AM GMT, but ... we don't really have what to vote.

Since we have only one candidate for each position, I suggest we should do it this way: anyone who has something against these candidates speak here and now. Unless at least 2 or 3 people will speak against the candidates (in which case we will hold real elections, namely a poll), they will automatically enter office on February the 1st, 2003.

Ambassador to Gathering Storm: quantum_mechani
Ambassador to Neu Demogyptica: Colonel Kraken
Ambassador to Glory of War: ZargonX
Ambassador to Roleplayers: Nimitz
Ambassador to Vox Controli: Odin
Ambassador to Lux Invicta: lmtoops

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, several of the Ambassadors are either inactive or not as active as before.

In the "Inactive" thread, Colonel Kraken mentioned that while he wished to continue as part of Legoland, he would be more of an observer.

quantum_mechani just came back after being inactive for a while and Nimitz, lmtoops, and ZargonX have been active players.

So we have a few questions.

1) Do the active members wish to continue as Ambassadors or not or do they wish to switch duties (due to lack of time or now being part of the Cabinet).

2) Is Colonel Kraken willing or able to remain as an Ambassador to ND? (Preferably we should have someone from Europe)

3) What is the status of Odin - I have seen him posting on Apolyton plenty of times recently - but I don't recall seeing him here recently. The Ambassador of Vox may be very important as they may be our closest neighbour and we may meet up with them soon.

If we do need additional ambassadors, I can probably take one and there might be other volunteers available.

EDIT:

Just noticed this post from Vondrack earlier. If this is the government position on this, my apologies for the post above.
