Vovanburg – “Pretty Little Paradise”
Or at least that’s what the Mayor thinks it is. In his now traditional biannual speech, the Mayor highlighted several aspects of the past two years. By now, every household has access to a hospital, and every child has a place to study. In addition, a large Hotel has been built on the shore, with plenty of bay-view rooms. With the tourists and the wealthy sims rushing into the city, it has become clear that no longer can Vovanburg remain the sleepy bedroom neighborhood it has been for over a decade. Indeed, both of these groups of people have one thing in common – they want services. With that in mind, the mayor has ordered some of the beautiful forests on the western side of the city to be chopped down and replaced with commercial districts. After a short demonstration in front of his house, the people went on to enjoy the benefits of the new luxury. Indeed, Vovanburg is now considered to be the business leader in the region, and is raking a hefty profit monthly. “If things continue to go just as well,” mayor said, “ we might just get rid of that coal power plant, which is the only thing that spoils the air we breathe, and import all the electricity we need from our neighbors.” That is certainly good news, for the occupants of the neighboring manors have been eyeing that power plant for some months now.
The mayor concluded his speech with a vague but exciting statement: “With the commerce boom our city has been experiencing, it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected if in the foreseeable future we would be able to construct a financial institution of our own.” Some people assert that that Mayor was referring to building Vovanburg’s very own stock exchange, yet that claim does not seem entirely plausible under the current circumstances.

Near Disaster Strikes Kregston
It was 11:00 am and sims where just geting to work when a fire broke out at rob's foundry, just across the street from the natural gas plant powering Kregston. Because the industrial sector has been nearly entirely abandoned, the fire station was not notified untill the flames had already spread across the street to an abandoned factory right next to the gas plant. Only a few minutes later, as the fire trucks where on their way, the fire got out of control and spread to the gas plant aswell as many of the neighbouring abandoned warehouses. By the time the fire trucks arrived at the scene six buildings where ablaze and rob's foundry was already leveled to the ground. The fire fighters focused their efforts on dousing the flames in the gas plant, desperately try to avoid the catastrophic disaster that would ensue if the gas ignighted. At first, it looked as though the flames where geting out of hand, but the firemen eventually saved the gas plant from destruction. However, another ten abandoned factories where destroyed in the mean time. Fortunetly no people where killed, and all the factories destroyed where abandoned. The Mayor has shrugged off criticism of Kregston's poor fire coverage saying "look on the bright side, that fire saved us alot of money in demolitioning all those old abandoned warehouses!" In total the fire destroyed eleven buildings, estimating at a value of $1,760.
The begining of the fire:

And the damage done:

Kregston
Population: 13 091
Commerical Jobs: 5 158
Industrial Jobs: 819
The commercial district in Kregston continues to boom, and the poorly educated have begun to move out of the city, following the dirty industry which has abandoned Kregston completely now. Althogh the population has actually shrunk in the past two years, the low-wealth residential buildings have been demolished and in their place many wealthy high-rises and mansions have taken their place. With the waste-to-energy plant still far out of our budget's grasp, we have had to settle for building a landfill. There are plans on building a recycling plant aswell. A new police station has been built, and the small fire station has been expanded to a large station in light of the september 5th fire.

(yes, that was three pictures... but the first one was small. )
