Goodday again, dear citizens of Jedinica Vrijstaat and beyond!

Three days multichoice: On what projects should our military budget be spent? In five years it is estimated we will be able to construct small cold fusion reactors, a very important military breakthrough. Having that in mind, I played a bit in the unit workshop and came up with some designs: (darn, I'm suddenly realizing this is the DPO's territory - but I have to poll what to put in the build queues no? )

Assuming we have no neural grafting or organic suberlub:
6-<3>-1*2 AAA "AAA Missile Infantry" cost 4 rows
6-3-1*2 police "Police Missile Infantry" cost 4 rows
2-3t-2*2 "Trance Plasma Skirmisher" cost 3 rows
2-<3>-2*2 AAA "AAA Plasma Skirmisher" cost 4 rows
2-3-3*2 police "Police Plasma Skirmisher" cost 4 rows
6-1-2*2 "Missile Speeder" cost 3 rows

Of course there's also the option to not build any new military unit, the write-in option etcetera.

Write-in: Use your judgement, but make sure to be ready for an air attack and possible naval invasion from Yang.

Oh, and where are those naval and air designs?

Well, there is at the very least a design for a Missile Needlejet and Missile Interceptor (called a 'Tactical', for some reason), which I created upon our acquisition of D:AP.

There wasn't enough place of a a few air and sea unit designs, so I just decided to see if people wanted those in the first place. If there were enough votes, I'd create another seperate poll.

we need units, i just don't like those ones in particular
i only voted for the missile speeder, and only then for keeping out invaders. infantry i find less useful.

once we do launch an invasion of the hive, we'll need MMI. both for 1-best^-1's (drop) and best-1-howeverfastchoppersgo choppers, and a few interceptors, IMO. choppers to empty the bases, droppers to drop in and garisson, and interceptors for defence.

What other defensive units (I'm not planning these as offensive units - choppers and drop troops are more handy for that - it's just that with fusion reactors a 6-<3>-1*2 costs nothing more than a 1-<3>-1*2) can you then think of? There's choice between fusion powered plasma units (best defence available) with trance, police and AAA ability. What else is there?

I tested it all yesterday in the unit workshop by starting a new random game in plain SMAC v4.0 and giving me the necessary techs through the cheat menu. So it should be ok, unless I'm seeing hallucinations.

in that case, add my vote to all the infantry. it's just that i thought only laser didn't cost with fusion since i never add weapons to my garrisons, cept maybe once i get to singularity

Seeing the low number of votes, does that mean I can declare this poll null and void and use my own judgement as Cedayon proposes? In that case I think I'll build AAA infantry.

I think it's Herc's decision, at least partly. Personally, I think we should have three catagories of bases (use 2nd specials only after discovering Neural Grafting):

Those at risk of attack: Should have a 1-best-1*2 AAA/trance and a 1-best-1*2 trance/ECM
Those that might face an air, or other small attack: Should have a 1-best-1*2 AAA/trance unit.
Those that are in no danger of attack: Should have a 1-1-1*2 trance/police (specials as needed)

This is what I tried in Akiria, however 1-3-1 units were built anyway. This greatly reduces time spent building defenders for new bases (that are not at risk) and means they can grow much quicker. For Jedinican bases I would suggest 1(or 2)-<3>t-1*2 troops. In my game missile troops cost more, even with fusion, but laser ones do not.

As far as I can remember, he only asked for a strong garrison in each Concordian base. I can't recall if he asked specific special abilities.

Odd. Can anyone else with SMAC v4.0 please confirm the mineral costs I wrote for the units in the first post?

Edit: well yes, when it's an AAA trance unit using laser instead of missile weapons, the cost will indeed be lower as trance is free for units when the weapon value is lower than the armour value. But without trance and only AAA, which we can't yet combine due to lack of technology, the cost should be the same.

Just build units, we have Yang on us, and what I have heard so is not Miriam to happy on us. Get rid of them.
