Who is the President suking up to with this AIDS for Africa thing? Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Like father like son when it comes to answering a direct question.

I would like to be a reporter doing a one on one interview with GWB

This is how I think it would turn out.
(indulge me for a moment, please?)
It would be great! I kant spell and he kant talk

DF: Mr presedent Why are you hellbent on attacking Iraq?

GWB: Well Doc, Saddam Hussan is a bad man who starves his people. He lies to the UN about his weapons of mass destruction and is currently seeking componets to build nuclear weapons.

DF: Sounds much like that guy in North Korea. Why Iraq and not North Korea?

GWB: Did I mention Saddam Hussan is a bad man and tryed to have my daddy killed?

DF: Yes Mr Presedent you did but......

GWB: Times short next question..

DF: Why are you wanting to send AIDS medication to the whole continent of Africa over America? Why not make the medication free to Americans first?

GWB: Well Doc it all goes back to Saddam Hussan.

DF:?????????????????????????????

DF:Could you please explain Mr President?

GWB:Well Doc did I mention Saddam Hussan is a bad man? Time is short next question.

DF: ok? What about home defence?

GWB: There never has been a fence around my home(the White House) so why should we give in terrorist now?
Time short next question.

DF: Mr Presindent you clame to want to fight pollution. Why open pristeen habitat to oil companies for drilling oil and forest to the lumber companies?

GWB: Well doc I have asked congress to fund billions for a hydrogen car.

DF: But that does not have anything to do with the greed of the oil companies now.How can you justify a hydrogen car of the future and destroying the envioremnt now?

GWB:It all goes back to Saddam Hussan.

DF: What does Saddam Hussan have to do with your oil agenda for America Mr Presedent?

GWB: SEE! that is the point I am trying to make! The problem with oil will be over when we get Saddam Hussan out of Iraq.
Did I mention I ask congress to fund a hydrogen car?
Time short last question DOC

DF:Last question uh? ok. I choose......this one.

GWBid I metion Saddam tryed to have my daddy killed?

DF: Yes you did Mr Presedint. Here is my question.

You want billions and billions for things such as medicare, education, missile defence and war.
At the same time you want a record tax cut. You claim to not want to pass this defecit on to the future generations. My question is, what is your plan for funds?

GWB: Well Doc I learned a powerful lesson from my daddy. Remember the "read my lips NO new taxes"?
Well I am going to use a plan borrowed from a dearly loved Presedent that the Rich Americans adored.
Its called the "trickel down" plan

GWB: BTW DOC? did I mention that Irag is part of the Axis of eviel?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Well, just for the record, my guess is that he's probably sucking up to Africans

Simplistic sarcastic replies aside, I tend to agree with your rather overhashed point, namely that Bush is a bit overobsessed right now. Oh well

I really didn't add anything of value, but you spent some time making this thread, so I felt like I should give you a reply... it will make you happier and increase the chances that you'll exert similar amounts of effort in the future.

I really am a silly old coot, aren't I?

Good question
Im not sure tho
Clinton should have been the one to want Suddam removed.

Why GWB?
Why could it not be another countries leader who wants to attack Iraq?

It just looks TOO covenant that it is GWB that want to attack.

I think the world would be more supportive if another country was leading the charge.

BTW
Did I mention that it was GWB brother that was governer of the disputed state that cost the democrates the presidency?

It was the obligatory pandering to a politically correct cause. A waste of breath. Let the africans take care of themselves. Trying to help them is just throwing money away.

I would have prefered he recognised the problems we have at the mexican border.

better than medicine - how about some education for the people - especially in interior Africa. Many still believe that Condoms GIVES you AIDS, and that being a man is about having sex with a virgin.

Actually I think he actually believes something has to be done to stop AIDS in Africa. African countries tend not to really hate us and some of them are really friendly to the US. Conquering AIDS is the first step to bringing them up.

Not only that, they also believe it's not manly to wear a condom. Education efforts have cost much and yielded little, so why bother to continue? Let them sort themselves out.

uh lets see - millions of people dying, we say we are active in the world not as an empire but to fight evil

doesnt it make sense we should do something about the millions of dying people???? Show that with the war on terrorism we have not forgotten about AIDS?? Show that we are .... compassionate???

It makes complete sense and is an excellent initiative - congrats Mr. President on that one.

How about some compassion for the many more millions who suffer from cancer? Why can't we spend as much on cancer research as we do on AIDS research? More people die from cancer than AIDS, but it's more trendy to want a cure for AIDS than a cure for cancer.

Of course it is interesting, if you consider that the US at the same time is blocking the release of the Patents on AIDS-Medicines for African countries, so that those drugs can be cheaper produced in those countries.
How many more lifes could be saved if the patents would be released

But at least it is a good gesture to give those 15 billion US-Dollars and it will help a lot of people there

There is a reason we don't want to give up patents to expensive drugs you know. What would happen if Africa countries suddenly started producing mass quantities of drugs and tried to sell them to other countries. I don't think the companies that held those patents would approve, and it would kill the entire patent system.

Follow the money.....Bush is sucking up to the drug companies that will be selling the drugs the U.S will be providing.

But he really should have thought this out more thoroughly. Instead of pledging the money outright (assuming Congress approves, of course), Bush could have announced the U.S. was going to lead a coalition against AIDS in Africa.

We offer the money as matching funds. If any non-African country donates money to the cause, then we match it. This way (a) we end up only donating 50% of the money; (b) we get 100% of the credit; and (c) Bush lessens his international reputation as a go-it-alone cowboy.

Education is of limited value with respect to hormone driven behavior. In the USA the most highly educated and knowledgeble demogrpic group about STD's and and other sex matters, college students, indulges in the hight rate of high rick sexual behavior.

Well I was addressing the issue of compassion that was brought up, not specifically referring to Bush's proposal. With regard to Bush's proposal, however, I am against it. Where does it say in the Constitution that the federal government can seize money from a working American to spend on a medical treatment program in Africa?

The federal government is empowered to conduct foreign policy and provide for the nation's defence - clearly in the modern world foreign aid is a tool of foreign policy. And this endeavour fits in with our foreign policy goals well. You may take a view of constitutional law that differs from the standards of the last 70 years, thats your right. I would suggest your position deserves a thread of its own and doesnt have much to do with the topic of this thread.
