Immigrants to Spain Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

We will continue to have individuals seeking to join us. It is my belief that most of these individuals wish to join us with the honest intention of participating and contributing to the greater glory of Spain, and we have seen some great contributions from families who's origins were Celtic, Gaelic, Tuscan, and Roman.

It is possible, even though unlikely, that foreign governments might send in "spies" to report our secrets to those who would plot against Spain. Such things cannot be fully protected against so long as we remain an open socieity.

OOC: Furthermore, having an insider "spy" gives a monumental advantage to the "spying" team and horribly unbalances this game. It would make playing the game almost pointless, and if discovered, would be reason enough to simply end the game, as the damage could never be undone. Spain will not participate in such schemes and if we have anyone on this team who is secretly "spying" for another team, my opinion of that person and that team would be forever ruined. Such behavior is far beyond the scope of fair play, is cheating, and if discovered, would likely put an end to this game. /OOC

To protect our society and keep it open, we may need to instigate a more careful policy on who we allow to come to Spain. So far I have allowed anyone who expressed a serious interest in joining us and who appeared to be active before the start of this team game. I am now opening up to discussion how we should handle immigrants and new members.

One policy I favor is allowing current and "trusted" members to sponsor the inclusion of a new person to the team. Your thoughts?

The sponsorship is a fine way to introduce the newcomer to all members of the tribe. The newcomer could then commit himself, on his honor, to respect our rules and to never cheat or spy.

And the member that vouches for them gets whacked if they turn out to have vouched for an informant

I fully agree. In addition, I suggest that every new person should make a "curriculum vitae" to introduce herself to the team.

We can also post about cheating in the "Demogame rules outline thread".

I think i will propose a rule there: (if it doesn't already exist)

"In the case of team membership abuse, for spying on others teams information, the spys employer (cheating team) shall cede, at least, half of its cities onto the victim team. And the spy himself will seek a permanent exile in nomansland."
- Fair enough punishment?

Otherwise we would have to end the whole game.
- and THAT would be sad.

Quite, Senor Watcher. The penalty for spies must also be upped to the most horrible of fates. Not merely a capital crime, as it is now, but the most terrible of penalties...squidding, drawing, and quartering. The spy is to be dropped into a vat of rabid squid, and bitten until half dead, whereupon he will be drawn up, and his entrails to be removed while he still lives, and burned within him. Then, his body is to be quartered and hung over the Togian Bridge as an example to all traitors and spies that it's better not to go about sticking your nose into other people's business.

It would be cheaper just to feed him a bowl of Spam Brand Rabid Squid for that would be a most subtly fiendish punishment indeed, because he would be punished at the moment he least expected it, during his dinner. The other way, with squidding and drawing and quartering is too obviously a punishment, not to mention that it gives us the puzzle of what to do with those rabid squid once they nibble him.

Aha! We can also dress him up as a huge crab, and offer him to the Great Octopus... He also goes by the sacred name San Tentacleus, and He lies just off the coast waiting to be feeded....
Our ancestors used to offer Him a huge crab once a year.
The tradition is almost dead now, but let us revitalize it using a spy.

Anyway, if we don't have a spy to dress up one particular year, we can always point one out and dress him up and feed him to San...

Great Octopus? Octopi don't indulge in manflesh! Squid, however, when rapid, are known to be nasty little buggers, due to their beaks, and are thus much more of a threat, when placed in a vat with a hundred others.

And, I thought Spam Brand Squids were all rabid anyway!

But if we throw him to the Great Octopus, we get the fun of watching the spy being thrown from tentacle to tentacle to tentacle to tentacle to tentacle to tentacle to tentacle to tentancle, only to begin all over again. It will be a great evening’s entertainment.

Yes, indeed. Throwing a spy to the Great Octopus would be great fun (for us and maybe the Octopus.)

[ooc]However, I'd like a stricter wording as the real punishment: The team must leave the game. All its cities, etc. are razed. Isn't this possible? IIRC it is. [/ooc]

[ooc] I see I've accidentally created the most monumentous insult in Spain's history--I can already envision Modern-Age Spanish kids calling each other "Spam Brands" or "Spam Squid" or just "Spam" or something of the sport. [/ooc]

We have a newcomer to Spain. He is a friend of mine and his name is Fibrizzo. Currently he is just catching up with everything so I don't think he'll post for a few days, but just wanted to inform you about his presence and that I sponsor him.

Fibrizzo, that sounds Italian, how can we make the name more Spanish (or Catalan) Is he going to be the Deputy Slave Overseer?
