less movement overall and only a little movement between the frames, with more frames please. i realize that would be more time consuming for you though, but i don't mind waiting if you've the time to do it. and if you don't have the time/inclination i don't mind either.

I really had to drop the quality to get the filesize down below the limits. I could add more frames, but it's hard to say what the final product would end up looking like. I'll try tomorrow since I want to spend my saturday night doing something besides making avatars.

Yes, filesize is a big limitation for avatars. I would say it is the biggest limitation, but for people such as me, skill is a much bigger limitation.

Ixy, I've been trying to strip the background off my avatar and make it transparent, but I end up with nasty white pixels around the yellow circle and the protruding moomin bits. What's the best way of doing it smoothly? Would the magic wand be useful?

Magic wand + feathering is probably the best way to remove the background and still have it look nice:
