This Sunday in history. The Balkan friendship pact Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Maybe I'll keep this up for every Sunday

The governments of the Balkan countries (with the exception of Bulgaria) proceeded in the period 1933-34 in preliminary talks in order to probe into the possibiliy of their joint-action in a multilateral inter-Balkan agreement.

As basic claim of these acts, the transgression of partial local disputes and the integration of the countries of the penisnsula in a whole was considered. It must be noted that the attitude of the Great Powers towards these activities ranged from absolutely positive (France) to negative (Soviet Union). The initiative for such an understanding belonged to the Greek politician Alexandros Papanastasiou, who had introduced the idea of a federal authority in the Balkan area already since 1929.

This inter-Balkan communication, implemented through four conferences, crystallized in the Balkan Understanding Pact of 9 February 1934, among Romania, Yugoslavia, Turkey and Greece. In its partial articles the desire to secure peace in the Balkans, the maintainance of territorial status and the respect to the principles of international law were stressed. The agreement had a two-year effect with the capacity for renewal.

Nevertheless, the reaction of the "revisionist" Powers (Germany, Italy) but of England as well in the conclusion of agreements of local importance and the gradual polarisation in the field of international relations of the countries of central Europe, undermined the effect of the agreement. The attitude of the leader of the opposition Eleftherios Venizelos, who opposed the general spirit of the agreement, considering that the country was risking becoming involved in wider international conflicts was typical of the Greek political scene of the time.

In the years 1934-39, the disintegration of the status of peace and the deterioration of the international crisis put to the test the system of intra-Balkan guarantees and finally led to an impasse. This, besides, was stressed by the alignment of the Balkan countries with different camps at the outbreak of the Second World War.

Many of our proganda brainwashed American friends don't realize that when Croatia broke away from Yugoslavia after the Soviet Union collapsed, they used the old Nazi flag that the Usteche flew during WW2 when they were the equivalent of the SS. Many SS accounts stated that the Usteche were even more brutal and violent in their genocidal tactics. Yet, "OH NO THOSE EVIL SERBIANS"

and people wonder why the Serbs don't like the Croats?

wake up and educate yourselves... stop believing what the Western media spoon feeds you!

There is a river a few hundred meters from where I live. For thousands of years the river keeps flowing from higher point (the Alps) to lower point (Danube). Name of the river is Sava and there are songs about her.

Change your nickname will you? May I suggest Potomac or Mississipi?

You dont want to be carry same name as a river in Croatia, do you?

Ok, seriousely. You can't change your name. But you can improve your education. Work on it, and it will show. When you write less mindless propaganda and more facts you will also earn respect.

I can't promise there will be songs about you though.

jebi se...

My grandmother, proud woman she was, renounced her own Croatian heritage after seeing her 2 brothers bayonetted by Usteche as she crossed the Sava River. But go on, disgrace Apolyton by continuing your weak insults. I'm proud of my Serbian heritage. But I'm sure you're proud too. Proud about how the Croats allied themselves with the Nazis, and then the Communists...

Ivica Kostelic declared himself a full supporter of the Nazi regime during an interview with a croatian newspaper a month ago- another thing to be proud of I guess

In all fairness, Greece has nothing to do with peace in the Balkans. Actually they obstructed it more then once.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Sava, you are rude and not open minded to add to uneducated.
You are still young, so there may be hope for you. I wont spend my time educating you though

Datajack, Ivica did not declare himself a supporter of Nazi regime. He was chatting with the reporter off the record, he never said he supported Nazis. He was talking about wwII battles and he compared Nazism to Stalinism and he said Nazism was better though they were both ideas of madmen.

Media made a big story out of it, because Ivica said some things that look, well ... pretty nasty. My impression is that he is only having a wwII fascination like many people do. He should be careful what he is saying because he is a public figure and it will be misused by jelaous Austrians and even Italians.

And .mp3 of the interview is available on the web page of the newspaper so you could judge yourself what he said if you spoke Croatian. Given our domination in so many sports nowadays, this is a good time to start learning

i believe that was the exact quote

Well may be it wasn't noticed that there was talk about a Balkan Confederacy.
A while ago me and Mihai from Roumania were discussing about when this idea was first thought etc so I found this text which talks exactly about that.

Datajack wrote "Ivica Kostelic declared himself a full supporter of the Nazi regime" which is not true and I reacted to that, though its an obvious troll.

Ivica did say some things that can be viewed as -nasty- as I said. Your quote is one of them. He actually said something like "you have to be more then ready, you have to know you will be victorious, be certain you will win like a german soldier on 22 june 1941". He said couple other things like that, I checked the web page of the newsmagazine which had the .mp3 but it is now subscription only so I can't give you a link to hear yourself.

I don't know him personaly but my impression is he is just a wwII fan and not in the least a Nazi. People say things like he said in informal discussions all the time and he had bad luck to have them published.

For example you are yourself sort of 'defending' Stalin in the Stalingrad thread but I dont think you are a Stalinist because of that (I doubt it you are even a commie ). Or David Floyd, he wrote in one thread that it would be better for the Russians if Hitler won and I dont think he is a Nazi either.
