Something I thought about Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Well, I was looking over things here and how we're getting them started, and noticed something interesting about the polls for landmass and etc.

My question on this is: HOW CAN WE DECIDE THAT WHEN IT'S AN INTERSITE THING? WHAT WE VOTE ON HERE MAKES LITTLE DIFFERENCE AS TO WHAT THE FINAL PICKS WILL BE....

Excuse my bold lettering, but really,....if the Apolyton team votes on this and that, what about the other sites like CivFanatics and BigCommunity? I don't really visit those sites very often, but I'm sure they may be doing the exact SAME polls! And who knows? They may come up with completely different results than us!

Basically, we need to coordinate these issues with THEM, not amongst ourselves necessarily.

The only poll that I see relevant to US is choosing our civ. The rest needs to be decided in a committee, or whatever. I don't know.

My thoughts, that's all. Comments?

I think each team gets one vote (decided by their respective sub-polls), and then the one with the most votes wins... a committee might be better, but it would take time to set up

When all the polls are completed we should post it in main Demogame forum. All teams participating should do the same. Getting all teams to post publicly AFTER all polls are done internally would be most ideal.

Guys - here is how it is going to work. We get one vote as a team on the intersite team forum. These polls are intended to determine wat that vote will be. We will hash out this week the parameters with the other sites - by Thursday or Friday I hope to be able to come back here and state the final game parameters. Most of the decisions on the game parameters to-date have been unanimous, so this may be pretty straightforward. The random or not, on the landmass is the key.

Anyways, that will give us a 3-5 day period to discuss and post a poll on the civ - or civ traits - or however we want to do it - KNOWING THE NATURE OF THE GAME WE ARE PLAYING.

Now - that is no guarantee we get our first choice. If two or more teams want the same first choice, it goes to a coin toss (exactly how that will work - I'm not sure)(maybe rocks-scissors-paper). So discussion on civ traits - or general aspects of game style are great, but we really cannot discuss specifics until later this week.

Yes. It does not require a neutral, trusted referee. It could be done in such a way that all teams could examine the results after the fact with a high degree of security and faith. I could create the double blind arrangements with a single hotmail account.

About the other teams...
Someone here who actually know who they are, and who we can contact?

BTW: I'm studying internet security issues these days,
so I might be able to help constitute an A.r.c.h.m.a.g.e

ThePlagueRat - see the new thread on the status of the game - it has the other teams listed. But in response to Meshelic's first post on this thread - I would ask that only one of us deal with the other teams on the game parameters. ie me. It has been an orderly and controlled discussion so far - other than some confusion as to who represents CFC.

We have a process to determine game parameters, but most teams are coming in on the middle of the road on things, with no out of the ordinary stuff like AP or using AI's. We should be done this week.

When the game starts, inter-team contact will be determined by the game of course. The one thing we have yet to hammer out is whether teams can 'talk' before they meet. Hmmmm... may need a poll on that.

Hope this helps.

And Mesh - I alos hope I have addressed your bold lettered concerns. I am co-ordinating with the other sites. I am taking Apolyton's position as determined by our polls to the forum. Most of the views on game parameters are generally consistent. We have not had to re-hash much to-date, although some of the late teams are still doing their polling. If a major game parameter issue comes up, I will bring it back to the forum.

And if anything looks like it is amajor departure from what we were hoping for - I will a) first argue our position, and b) as I said, bring it back here to the attention of the forum. And in the end, there really isn't any right or wrong game parameter, just ones that should be taken into consideration in choosing a civ. And the schedule will accomodate that.

If you want my guess - the only issue may be random or predetermined geography - but hey - even knowing the wild card nature of random geography will help in the civ choice.

There exist websites that do things like this for you: e.g. roll a pair of dice and then send two people an email or something.
