I just can not believe it... Roland, you did great. I thanked Hrett also for doing the same, but what is the point of these AARs than just letting people know about the game?

And I wonder how anyone can suppose IG or QS would be unhappy with the AARs from the BTs to be broadcasted to a larger base... these AARs are the best ads ever for this game, thanks to BTs who are gifted with a pencil and generous enough to share their experiences. And these ads cost nothing...

Slide, if you really wanted to give a good advice to Roland, you could use the private message function to Roland and also abstain from advertising for your site.

To the nay sayers, I would point out that Roland posting the AARs here actually helped influence my decision to buy the game (in a positive way). If you'd rather get caught up in legalities about some AARs (these aren't works of art, people) then maybe the game will suffer because some, like me, would be less aware of the depth involved; instead we'll just see the "Death by a 1000 cuts" thread and decide to pass.

Then again, if the AARs are just meant to stoke peoples' egos (look at me: I'm a Beta Tester! Woohoo) at the expense of the community (and sales), then so be it.

And no, I cannot get to the "official" forums from behind the firewall where I work.

Yes the AAR's did a lot to revive my faith in the game. Beta Testers would find it hard (if not unimportant) to repeatedly write up witty AAR's if they weren't enjoying playing the game and wanting to pass on that enjoyment to others. It takes a lot more effort than posting "the AI is acceptable, the combat needs tweaking" on the company website.

Amen. I don't mind looking at a new site occassionally but begin to think when I see a new thread about it every week.

Roland, thanks for posting the AARs. I'm sorry you felt like you had to pull them down. I agree that if this had been a major problem, one of the moderators would have removed and/or blocked this thread. Don't let The Man hold you down; if you keep getting hassled I've got fifty bucks on your legal defence.

sigh....

now im the bad guy, spending hundreds of hours of my life devoted to this community.... doing everything by the book, and yes, all i want, is people to visit my site, thats all... when someone takes content without proper permission, then i will speak up...

Slide, you are the bad guy. You are the worst example of a fan. I also will guarantee that I will never visit slide's site.

I didn't read any of the AAR's, but I want to thank Roland for posting them.

I dont see why you are all bashing Slide....

he was just trying to warn Roland that he should get permission before copying huge chunks of stuff from another site like that....

he wasnt saying he was going to get him into trouble or anything.....just pointing out another place you can get/read them...

Slide has a good point but the way he went about this whole thing was wrong. I don't think it was cool to question the ability of the poster to put up the AAR's and then advertise another site at the same time.

If you'd politely pointed out that IG/QS might want to exercise their legal rights and to obtain permission I'd have no problem. Rantz comes here often enough that I'm sure we could have got a quick informal answer and quietly removed any material if it was necessary.

Instead you repeatedly post about lawsuits which is coming heavy handed, particularly from an amateur with a rival site who has a vested interest in being nasty about it. The chances of IG getting nasty about additional free publicity are astronomically minute since no game secrets were being disseminated.

I don't feel he was acting in anyone's interest but his own. The only time I ever see him post here is to advertise his own site. And you're right, he never said specifically he was going to rat Roland out, he just made sure to point out HE asked for permission and had the blessing of IG while ROLAND did not . I'm sure slIde is a nice guy, but I'm a little upset that I didn't get to finish the AARs that Roland laboriously copied over from IG because some of us can't get to the forums over there.
