For the past several months, I've been hooked on a PC game simply titled Dance With Intensity. For any of you familiar with Dance Dance Revolution, this is basically a free version of that for the PC. Now, I'd been playing DWI with just the number pad, which is not nearly the same as the arcade experience, which involves dancing around on a platform as arrows scroll by on the screen. I have never actually played DDR before, for fear of looking silly in public.
So, for some reason, I decided to order a dancepad online (I got a cheap vinyl one for $15). It just arrived today, and I must say that it's incredibly fun. My dancing could definitely use some work since I suck pretty badly. But it's really a damn fine workout. After dancing for an hour and a half, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to feel it tomorrow. I'll try to get some pictures of me dancing in the next couple of days so you can see just how silly I look. So are there any other DDR players on apolyton?

I'll NEVER understand why DDR is so popular.

At the campus arcade they've got about half a dozen DDR machines now and they're always in use, and the music -- oh God the music is terrible and soooo loud that the arcade is painful to go to now.

That's the good thing about the PC version - you can make your own steps out of any song (though it takes a bunch of work and I haven't really tried to yet). In addition to some of the arcade songs I have a bunch of stuff like Green Day & Bad Religion. Fun stuff.

My mum has her own Playstation with dancemat, complete with DDR Party Mix and DDR Euromix. I can't get her off the bloody thing, and I've never used it myself, at the risk of losing what remains of my dignity.

I've played it, it's alot of fun, although I'm a bit bad at it...
DDR isn't really like 'real' dancing for me. It's following orders from someone else, and you have to keep track of all of them, so it's more of a competition for me, while dancing is just something I do for fun.
mleonard is totally awesome at DDR though, just thought you might be interested in knowing.
